Also, I'm in the south. It's been 80'ish during the days so it's feasible the soil could have gotten warm enough to incubate. I also use the hot litter method for their bedding and we see how warm natural composting is. I'm almost tempted to experiment with fertile eggs in the dirt
My hens like dirt baths and constantly dig holes. I said in an earlier post, I wonder if they dug the hole and laid in it, sat on the eggs, with me thinking dirt bath or just sitting, then buried them when they left. My dad said chickens will bury the eggs if they're afraid of an egg eater...
My guess is they dug the hole, laid the eggs, sat on the nest, then when they left the nest they buried them. But since I never saw them in the last 21 days sit on anything I cannot confirm.
I have brought the chicks inside, the hens were pecking them. They're in the incubator since they're still wet. I have never seen this in my life. My dad, raised chickens for 70 years now, said they will bury their eggs if they think the roosters will eat them. But he's never heard of any...
HI all
We've had a pretty warm March and hope to continue into April. I'm on the SE USA.

After 12 hours, wet a q-tip, get tweezers. Take a cm size piece of the shell, add q-tip, take a cm size piece of shell, add q-tip. Wet the q-tip and pat the chick and the inside membrane because it looks stuck. It's really really hard and dangerous to assist in hatching because if the yolk sack...
Hi friends,
I'm Christina. I'm not new to chickens but I'm new to breeding.
I grew up on a farm, so I am a pro at taming roosters but also not afraid to cull and head to the freezer camp.
Right now, I have 6 chicks that hatched Sunday night into Monday morning. I know how to vent sex, my dad...
I have a silver lace male Wyandotte, I have 4 golden laced hens. If I'm correct, their offspring should be sex-linked.
Can someone tell me which color would be male and which would be female? This is the first time I've tried mixing colors and I'm a little confused
