I think i was going to have the back of the roof 6 inches up so the ventilation would be 6 inches sloping over 4 feet. I changed it so it would be 4 ft deep, making the coop layout like this: I have to admit i like it a lot better!! So with it like this, it makes up for the nesting boxes...

how far up should the outside roost be?

very cute coop!! and yes, i plan on putting plenty of overhang. and good point, i can easily put a door on the area under the coop that opens from the outside if its too much of a pain. goldens are a medium sized hen(i believe), but i should prob stick with three so they arent crowded at all??
