Oh, I so know what you are saying, I'm a native Floridian and seen what those storms can do. Only two times I ever evacuated in my 63 years, Milton was one cause he hit us almost straight on, thanking the Good Lord he down graded to a Cat 2 before he reached us, but was still pretty impressive...
Thank you for the great details!! My run top is fenced off just like the sides, but I plan on closing in the coop areas which is one of the pens at each end and leaving the runs, which is in between, just covered with heavy duty tarp like you have, taking it off when we have the sever storms...
Yes, I have noticed that, not a fan. We got Milton, took out a barn, lots of old oaks (we have a small farm).....but we didn't have the chickens, just started up again, (had chickens about 25 years ago).
Hope you didn't sustain too much damage. Do you happen to have pictures, I can't quite...
So, we had our first good rain in 4 months, Thank you Lord, we needed it. This is my pen, (picture taken months ago at the start of my build). I have three and half pens butted up together and the tarps that was given to me for these pens only cover each pen, no overlap. So, water poured in...
UPDATE: Oh, what a wonderful Blessing!! The new set up is working, both Roosters are going to their own coops!! It only took two nights of redirecting Big Boy to his new coop as he would stand at the door of the old one. I'm so thrilled I get to keep both. They seem to be getting along...
Oh, one of my favorite places, I love Ocala, we have to drive through that area several times a year when Hubby coming and going to jobs up north.
Thank you for your perspective, excellent info!! I might follow suit with the concrete idea. I used anchors for the others, will transfer them to...
I'm a native Floridian, we live more central in the state, not near the coast at all! So, we rarely get what we have the last two years. We got Milton, Ian and Debby. I will say it rattled my nerves for sure. Lost a couple of barns and a few large oaks (in back acreage. Nothing compared to...
I'm prepared for the sight blocks, each 8x8 section between the two runs has just enough space to drop a board or tarp between them. If any issues start while free range, both roosters will let me pick them up (all my chickens will allow me to) and I can put one or the other back into the run...
Ref the poop situation; I do a deep litter method with pine shavings at the moment. I put down cinnamon and First Saturday lime every time I add a layer, works great for smell and breaking down the material. I will clean out the coops once a month.
Thank you for your response; it is greatly appreciated. If I may clarify, (sorry for the confusion) there are two sets of coops/runs, one set for each Roo and hens. Also, they are only in these areas when they go to bed. I open the doors in the morning for all-day free roam and keep the run...
