Depluming mites or first adult molt?

Thank you for your reassurance. I did try them, but they kept losing them in our wooded underbrush lol

Depluming mites or first adult molt?

Yes, one of his favorites and middle of the group. She is one of our hens we used to find, “frozen” in woods and not wanting to come to the run at feeding time. This behavior has stopped since our youngest flock members have matured. We suspected she was hiding from the rooster. Now that I...

Depluming mites or first adult molt?

Ah yeah, that does make sense when explained like that! As he and the younger flock members all look great. Does this mean our rooster is too rough with them or is this just typical feather wear for ladies with a rooster in their flock? He has been such a good rooster in my mind, as he is...

The pin feathers I noticed on one of them.

Depluming mites or first adult molt?

j No excessive preening. Yes, a Cochin rooster is their alpha. We have a couple others, but these ladies don’t allow them to mate with them nor does our head rooster lol.

Depluming mites or first adult molt?

Yes, we do give minimal treats - scraps (fruits typically) and in addition to their pellet feed, they get flock conditioner, which is a complete scratch feed.

Depluming mites or first adult molt?

I do have a few roosters. Though only one of them mates with these ladies; he is a Cochin. I have not noticed them excessively preening. I did notice new feathers on one of them, not pictured though. All of our six month old hens have zero feather issues, nor our alpha rooster who is as old as...

Depluming mites or first adult molt?

Depluming mites or first adult molt? These girls are 17-18 months old, with exception to the Light Brahma who is 15 months old. Skin isn‘t red / no bare red spots. Our newer flock members’ feathers (6 months old) all look good.

    Help me id please

Which one of these is my Black Australorp pullet and which one is my Black Jersey Giant? Both are 15 weeks old. I suspect #2 is the Jersey Giant just based on how slow she’s feathering out. She also still makes chick noises. The cockerel is a Black Australorp that is the same age.

Did she shrink wrap her eggs?!

Unfortunately, one the chicks fell out from the brooder coop (in their run, it does have a ramp) and we found it half eaten in the main coop. I had just checked on them 45 minutes prior too. Super sad. We have since moved mama hen and the remaining four chicks into our brooder pen in the main...

Did she shrink wrap her eggs?!

Love this. Our brooder space is in the coop, so it makes integration much easier since they’re seen from the beginning. I ended up candling the remaining eggs. One was much further along than the others, so I put it in the incubator. I’m hoping it will hatch within the day and I can integrate it...

Did she shrink wrap her eggs?!

I could set one up in their coop. If I do, how long do they need to be separated for?

Did she shrink wrap her eggs?!

Ack. She’s stopped sitting on the other eggs. They’re behind the others by a week or so. We had a sneaky hen laying her eggs near her while we were away on vacation. If I incubate these eggs to hatch them, will she accept the chicks?

Did she shrink wrap her eggs?!

She’s a Pavlovskaya barnyard special with a v-shaped and single comb mix lol. Our rooster is a Cochin barnyard special. She has been incubating a mix of Golden Comets, Amerucauna, and Brahma eggs, possibly a French Wheaten Marian and one of her own eggs. I can’t remember all I put under her lol...
