    Muscovy Duck question.

I have more than one muscovy drake in my flock and really don't have any problems. If you give them plenty of space, then they should be fine as long as you have several hens for them. When muscovys get a couple of months old you can usually tell males from females. The males will typically...

Depending on how old they are, I would say $25/pair is a great price. Around here they bring $20-25 each if they are full grown.

    Male Mandarin

I forgot to say that with full-winged birds they can fly up, hit their heads on the side or top of the pen and break their necks. I have lost a few birds that way. But once you get them to calm down then it should be smooth sailing.

    Male Mandarin

If you buy full-winged birds that have been raised in a large flight pen, then yes they will be wild and crazy. One thing you can do is clip their wings and by the time they grow back they should be used to you. If you have a smaller pen then you may have to move slow when you enter the pen...

I know what you mean. The best time to buy birds is in the fall and winter. Sometimes you can catch some birds in the spring and summer at swap meets or poultry auctions, but once the birds start breeding and laying nobody wants to sell them.

What is the best way to tag a chick for breeding purposes?

Toe punching is best to do right after hatching because the webbing between the toes is very soft. The older the bird gets, the tougher the webbing becomes. I am not positive, but I think you can wing band the birds very young also. My uncle raised show birds for decades and I got chicks from...

What is the best way to tag a chick for breeding purposes?

Toe punching doesn't interfere with showing either.

What is the best way to tag a chick for breeding purposes?

Wing banding is a metal band that goes on/in the wing. The band has a unique stamped in serial number. It will not interfere with showing and alot of breeders that show use wing bands. After the bird gets older the wing feathers cover over the metal band and you can't even see it. Wing bands...

What is the best way to tag a chick for breeding purposes?

The way I identify my chicks is by toe punching them. It only hurts them for a few seconds. Most feed stores carry them and if not you can order them online from just about any poultry supply. It's quick and easy, and I think it is the best way to get the job done. If you do toe punch them...

A friend found a baby duck.... Anyone know what it is?

If you can put one or two ducklings about the same size in with that wood duck they will teach it how to eat and drink. This is what I've done to teach my mandarins and wood ducks to eat and drink without their mother. I wouldn't worry to much about the fact that the duckling was taken from...
