    Identify rescued chick

Thank you! I am not familiar with a speckled sussex, so I never would have guessed. I can't have roosters, so I guess it needs a new home.

    Identify rescued chick

I rescued this brown chick 4.5 weeks ago. I was wanting to confirm the breed (and sex if possible at this age).

Some articles are good pointing out the negative, but other articles may be too extreme. Hard to weigh them all out. But I try my best. The gal at the Grange Coop told me to try the oats. I guess I just won't overdo it.

I found the article about oats, here it is: http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2018/01/the-shocking-effect-of-oatmeal/

She laid a regular egg about 4 days ago. Last summer she had a couple of eggs without shells, but it was also 107-114 degrees outside.

I tried to give her mashed up calcium and D3 with PNButter and then with Yogurt. She is a picky eater. So I put a tiny bit of oatmeal with the mashed calcium and she gobbled it up. Although I read oatmeal is not good for chickens, so I guess that will be very limited. Today I bought some...

Thank you. I am thinking it might be a Vit. D issue. Today I bought some Poultry Booster with Vit. D to add to their layer crumbles.

Thanks again. I will only use the Oyster Shells in the feed tomorrow. The other chicken's egg shells are hard, but they used to be really hard and I noticed they crack easier now. I did notice this Sultan laying a couple of egg without shells last summer, but it was really hot outside...

Thank you. I guess with both PNButter and Yogurt you would need to be cautious. Peanut Butter with Xylitol is toxic to dogs (which I never have the Xylitol in my house due to a Chinese Crested dog that loves to steal my food), and Yogurt is a milk product. But they both sound like an easy way...

That might make a good picture! Thank you! I added some Oyster Shell into their feed for tomorrow until I can pick up some calcium for her. I usually keep the Oyster Shell next to their laying bins and I usually have hard egg shells. But I noticed this year they have been softer and I am not...

    Hello Chicken World

I brought them all in the house for a Christmas picture in 2014, but they weren't the best posers.
