    4 chicken limit

I'm still a beginner, but I've learned a lot in a short time and out of all my breeds, I think my Splash Marans are my favorite. They're pretty, friendly (my husband had turned them into the neediest creatures 😂), and they're mostly quiet (except when they want attention and know we're nearby...

    4 chicken limit

Hey, BYC members! I know a family who wants to get chickens at some point, but they can only have 4 where they live.😭 Any breed suggestions? They have young kids, and want eggs but also pets. I was thinking Australorps would be pretty good for them... So if you could

    Ducks disappearing

The thing with bobcats is that unless you catch them on camera, they're designed to leave no trace behind. Even big cats like puma don't leave traces behind. They take their prey back to their territory, where they feel safer. Coyotes can be noisy about killing. So I'd put my money on bobcat.

    Ok for dust bath?

Thanks! This was very helpful. I try to let them decide as well.

    Ok for dust bath?

They are briquettes, yes. I figured it wouldn't be too drying considering the amount of humidity here, but if it's better to skip it then I will.

    Ok for dust bath?

Sorry if this has been asked, I didn't have time to go through ALL the dust bath questions 😅 My chicks are about 6 weeks old. We BBQ often with charcoal, so we get lots of ash. This is a multi-question: is it OK for them to dust bathe in charcoal ash? I know wood ash is ok. If not, is the...

Need advice for the best vines and plants for in a chicken run!

I don't have plants near my run, but I do have a fence and I planted Morning Glories all around. They do a nice job of clinging to the fence and looking pretty.

    Less developed chick with limp

Thanks! I just wanted to make sure it wasn't something that should be looked at. She seems happy and not in pain, just behind, developmentally.

    Less developed chick with limp

So I was able to get some pics today, hope it helps. As you can see, it's just the 1 toe - that's why I thought it might be an injury. But what you said makes perfect sense. She improved a lot once we seperated the flocks.

    Less developed chick with limp

I'm a new chicken AND duck mom. I did a ton of research for 2 years before starting my flock but nothing prepared me for my own idiocy. I raised my chicks and ducklings together - 4 Rouen ducklings with 9 chicks. Out of everything I read, I wasn't prepared for how MUCH water the ducklings throw...

    Hi y'all!

Thank you for the article! I actually did quite a bit of reading for a couple of years before starting my flock, I simply meant that experience is the best teacher ☺️ We already have a coop in place. I'm even digging a small pond for my Rouens. But considering some of my chicks are unsexed, I AM...

    Hi y'all!

New member AND mama! I've never had any fowl before and now I've got both at the same time! I'm trying to learn as I go. I have 9 chicks (3 each of Americouna, NH Red, and Splash Maran) and 4 Rouen ducklings. I live in NE TN so it's fluctuating between 50-70f during the day, 30-50f at night...
