(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I had chickens growing up, they were all white. I didn't know that there were all these other varieties to choose from! We did do some "harvesting" at times. but mostly eggs. No secure coop or anything. I don't remember too many...
I like this idea, with a few tweaks for safety. http://youtu.be/CNoDGd0g4qQ I would use bricks underneath it instead of plywood, and I would secure the light bulb inside so it won't jostle around. If it was on all the time, I think it would "double" as a warmer for the chickens also. I bought...
I was kept awake half the night thinking of all the bad things that could happen to my chickens at night. I havent been locking them in the coop, even though they are locked into a pen with a secure top. I was thinking of all the digging predators that might come by, like a fox, skunk...
My neighbor across the street has cat sat for us before, and she would bird sit if asked. We exchange helping eachother. My man will change her lawn mower and snow blower oil, and tune ups for her during the season. Just wat being neighbors is all about. Cute, she is in her 70's at least...
I work night shift, and hear dogs bark all day long while I am trying to sleep. Frustrating. People think their dog is cute, and having fun, while some people are suffering through the noise.
Mine like a fresh pile of garden dirt, a foil pie pan, new bedding, and when I did up their straw in the run, they think it's new again, and begin pecking. I want to try the bird swing, but I don't have room. Mind also like pulling the bark off dry logs, and they even have pecked a giant crator...
I think it is funny how only 'non crowing' birds are allowed, but people leave their barking dogs out all day and night, and no one has a problem with that. Just a random thought.
well, the cats I've had either stalked the neighbor's children, gave the other neighbor 4 fang holes in her shin, killed rabbits and birds in my and the neighbor's yard, got a broken leg, got cancer, or tore up my screen doors. The parakeets I had were in a dedicated room, in which they...
Hi, I draped a tarp over the coop last week. It covers the small run and the hen house. I think it cuts down of the sun glare and beating hot rays. It increases the shade area also. If I see them getting overheated, I hose down their run. They don't like ice too much in their water.
