Oh quite interesting that it appears she doesn't have leg feathers because of the molting! Would still expect a lot more leg feathers considering the parent breeds. Based on the Brahma colour that Brahma mom might be a cross between a partridge Brahma and a buff Brahma. It would explain why...
Cappucino is not crossed with a buff Brahma. Both Brahma's and Silkies have the dominant traits of feathered feet, this bird has none at all.
She is also partridge coloured, which is one of the more recessive colours. Might be wrong about this, but shouldn't she be buff Brahma coloured if that...
I own a few CX hens that are 9 months old. I feed them 100 grams of layer feed per bird in the morning and 70 grams in the evening. Normally they have free access to a run so they can forage grass and insects. Even with just giving them that amount of food they still were gaining weight slowly...
2 of my pullets from March have started laying, the exception is the brahma pullet. One pullet born at the end of June has als started laying. I do have artificial light, so that's probably why. But all my older hens are molting right now
I think you are either talking about the Eurasian griffon vulture (Gyps fulvus) which is witnessed in the Netherlands sometimes, or maybe the monk vulture (Aegypius monachus). But the turkey vulture is only in the Americas. Unless you are talking an escaped one. Don't know any organization that...
I will be sure to also lecture my rooster on this. I mean you never know when a turkey vulture might show up in the Netherlands! :gig
On a more serious note I do have a common kestrel (Falco tinnunculus), tawny owl (Strix aluco), western barn owl (Tyto alba) and a pair of common buzzards (Buteo...
Welcome to BYC!
Planning to cross a Malay rooster with a Silkie hen in give or take 4 years. Will be a while, but I will get there.
I do know Mysterychicken has a thread on giant Silkies in which she crossed Malay with Silkies and had photo's. It's the last few pages of that thread.
Fibro is a dominant gene so it should be Fm/Fm. Do you know what breed he is? You will only get blue eggs if the rooster does not carry genes for brown eggs. Otherwise the offspring will lay green eggs. No matter who you cross the rooster with, the female offspring will always be fibro. But...
Update time! So both the Bearded Polish and Silkie pullets have started laying. The Ayam Cemani Silkie crossbreed did turn out to be a rooster which was noticeable by the long hackle and tail feathers, he also started crowing. I have put him with the 2 older hens that I separated a while ago...
One of the Hubbards stopped eating. She does eat a few pellets, but she just walks off while the others are still eating. She does eat chicory leaves, so at least she does still consume something everyday. This has been going on for almost a week now. I will seperate her when I have made a place...
The Ross 308, Cobb 500 and their other broiler strains are all examples of a Cornish X terminal line. Parent stock are not considered terminal lines, only the broilers we eat.
This is an nationwide holiday celebrated in the Netherlands. Everyone here knows about it and celebrates in some way. The article explains it quite well. For us it starts around 20 November and ends today on the 5th of December. Every year there is a whole news program for kids specifically with...
I feed mine layer feed 100 grams in the morning and 70 grams in the afternoon per bird. Like Molpet said free range is very important. Not only for exercise, but also so they eat a lot of grass which should help with their chronic hunger.
