ohh pardon me...I missed your post!
the chick made a full recovery in just a matter of 12 hours post hatch. We did not end up doing any intervention for this chick...by the time we ran to town and got the tape there was progress noted in chicks feet and we decided to just closely watch the...
this is a photo of one of our frizzle cochins when he was a bit over a week old...hope these help
the frizzle wing feathers was obvious a bit younger age than these above photos...but this was youngest I could find in our pictures to share with ya.
the very first tip of their wing feathers...
here is two more photos...
she makes attempts to walk around on her hocks...she can get around fairly well considering she is a few hours old...she is pretty wobbly on her hocks when trying to walk...
I have not seen her move feet or toes yet
paralyzed?
curled toes?
oh I was wrong...both feet are wrong!
its almost like poor little fellas feet are folded in half together make sense?
I try to get photos through the incubator window and its bad reflection.
it would be like a persons tumb and index finger folded over palm side against pinky and ring...
well we just experienced our first Mama brooding! way awesome! she had 5 eggs set. 1 stopped 2nd week. 4 left all hatched. *yeah for Mama...she did far better than me!*
however one chick was left in the nest and still completely wet (last hatch) and freezing to the touch. Mama left it in the...
ya know I was just wondering that myself too!! excited to see what others say about this question!!
we have a group of chicks 6wks age outside coop and part of the same group still indoors and I do know there is many cockerels in each group.
outside ones started crowing 2nd day we moved them...
I would also guess girl....absolutely adorable! wow
here is two photos to compare our cochins for ya.
both are 6 wks old and same hatch date. (yes our pullets little comb is reddish it did not come out so great in the photo though. she also has pretty visible red wattles too)
and little roo man
our best guess on this little one was a RIR bantam?
very petite chick. smallest in the group. absolute sweetheart and sooo outgoing.
at first thought roo...but as time passes might be pullet? no major changes in comb the last two weeks.
this is Mocha Jo @ 1 week old
next is now @ 6wks old...
okay....seems so far most positive is standards so far?
thank you for everyone sharing!
mmm maybe there is a difference in the standards vs bantams
oh that made me think a bit more....
its a bit difficult (no thats an understatement...really hard) for me to be certain in sexing them out...
ahhh adorable! we have the troughs and covered tops on the large feeders so there is no chance of one getting to do that.
but thats just precious.
I have a little Golden Laced Cochin that almost every time I hand feed the chicks he hops up in the middle of my hand and lays down on the food...
Hello
I read all over the place people praising Brahmas for their excellent temperaments and gentleness.
so two months ago when we purchase chicks we got 5 light brahma bantams and 5 buff bantams.
wow~they are the most nasty of the entire batch of chicks! (silkies, cochins 3 varities, and...
nannie I do much the same with our current rooster. (skyroo) (a bit over a year old and he is all rooster) I am surprised to read this whole thread and feeling ever so blessed and nervous about our upcoming cockerels.
maybe being free-range provides a sense of security....not being trapped...I...
arlee and Bama wow thank you that makes sense now.
I will have a look around in the buy/sell. I appreciate your help.
I did not even think about that when we got the chicks from the hatchery.
makes sense that they cant invest time to do a complete inspection of each chick when dealing with...
