What injured my duck and chicken?? Help, please!

An update, unforunately not good news! I had checked the rest of the birds over last night, but must have missed one...one of the Rhode Island Reds, same age as the buff orpington, lost it's entire leg too - it was removed at the joint where the thigh meets the body. Would a mink do this sort...

What injured my duck and chicken?? Help, please!

Yes, they lived both lived through it! The duck wasn't moving around well (since his foot was missing), but he would still try to move out of your way if you came up to him. The chicken was wandering around the garden, not quite acting normal (he wasn't hanging around with the group he is...

What injured my duck and chicken?? Help, please!

No, I didn't see any puncture or scratch marks... I looked the buff orpington all over, and didn't see any other marks. Didn't see anything on the duck either, but it had quite a thick set of feather which made it harder to see.

What injured my duck and chicken?? Help, please!

No, haven't found either the foot or the wing. But I realized the duck was injured when I was putting them in their pens tonight, and it was already getting dark out - there was no way I would have found his foot in the dark. If it was there, I'm sure it'd be gone by morning. Didn't have a...

Would they do their damage during the daytime?

What injured my duck and chicken?? Help, please!

They are not enclosed, but I've never seen a bird of prey in our area (of course, that doesn't mean they aren't there). Oh, and this is the first time we've had any injuries in our flock this year (this is the first year we've had them). The strangest thing is that we were around quite a bit...

What injured my duck and chicken?? Help, please!

We have some ducks and chicken, and 2 of them were injured today, but we're not sure by what. It happened during daylight hours, towards the end of the day. One was a buff orpington (about 3 1/2 or 4 months old)...it had one of it's wings ripped off. The other was a Cayuga duck, about 5 months...

    New to Muscovies...broody hen question

It's not I don't want them to brood. I had been collecting their eggs for eating at first, and then had collected them in hopes of getting some to incubate, and would let them set on the next ones. I was thinking that they would keep laying until they had enough in their nest and we would end up...

    New to Muscovies...broody hen question

I have a trio of muscovies that I got earlier this summer. They ewre laying when I got them, and stopped a couple of days afterwords. About 3 weeks later, they started to lay again. We just assumed that they had gotten stressed and when the felt more comfortable they started to lay again. A few...

Using an automatic turner for duck eggs?

Great...do you have any other tricks for getting a good hatch rate?

    What happens if...?

Oh good...we took one out before we went to bed last night and put him in the brooder with the other one that had hatched. He was mostly dry, but not totally. He's still a bit wobbly, and I was worried that it was because we took him out too early. I tend to be a bit on the impatient side...

    What happens if...?

What happens if you remove the chicks a bit too early from the incubator/hatcher after they hatch?? Not when they are still all wet, but if they were not quite ready to come out? (and, yes, I realize that would not be the ideal situation )

Using an automatic turner for duck eggs?

I'm going to set some muscovey eggs in a couple of days - my first time incubating duck eggs! I have read a few things about turning duck eggs by hand vs using an automatic turner...which is better, or does it matter? And if you turn by hand, why? Thanks!
