Thanks for all your replies!
They surely are preening those areas very often, as it's irritating them. Especially when I'm not watching them(they think).
I could surely try a big area for them to sand bath :) See if that helps over time.
The whole container is due for a cleaning anyway(today).
The brooder is as in the picture in previous post, a black plastic tote with soft surfaces(walls). Where they are walking around in saw dust.
The first picture "black spots" ar obviously feather stumps. What I did se was in between the normal areas/feathers, there were some small black spots/dust.
I did find an old magnifying glass, tried to look closer. Seems as if there are specs of small black dots between the feathers, was unable to find one that was moving though!
I feel like it's not conclusive, would have liked to see a moving critter!
Some people talked about spraying Permethrin...
I have no clue what mites look like, but haven't been able to spot them with my eyes yet, but looks almost like dry skin flakes between the feathers, maybe that could be due to mites.
Originally I did not have straw bedding, only clean saw dust. Then I thought maybe they were bored and pecking...
Hi! I'm very new to quail, trying to figure out what is going on with them. They are eating, drinking and running around like the rest. What I have noticed is red skin and feather loss.
In the beginning they were fine, then slowly starting to get worse. I had the following thoughts:
1. First...
Finally got some eggs! Though a crow couple has started stealing eggs, just noticed today. They actually walk all the way inside the duck house, then carry the eggs out. I'm going to be waging war on them!
They do have their own little house with fluffy saw dust, which I would think is a sufficient bedding :)
That's a good tip though, maybe even use "fake" chicken egg to decide the nesting spot for her!
What the heck! More like a stink bomb after a while, how could they be so silly haha
Better start up my big koi pond filters then, to make the water so clear that I can see the bottom well. It's quite deep, 5.5 feet.
They're nicely matching, have one other totally white female, and the male is completely black :D
That's cool, the signs does point towards her starting to produce eggs then!
Hi!
I'm very new to the whole egg laying process when it comes to Muscovy ducks.
What I've noticed, is that one of my ducks(in the picture), have been eating very little lately also the belly has become fat.
Her and the male has been having fun in the Koi pond lately, I'm thinking if it could...
She surely is blind on that eye since I got her a month old or so, dunno what happened during the upbringing at the first owners place.
The good thing is that she seems much less irritated now, after treatment. Before she was constantly closing the eye, now she keeps it open most of the time...
That's not really a sneeze, it's her squeaking, telling me to keep distance. She makes the same sound when they are nipping on eachother. Only time they sneeze is sometimes when drinking water, getting it in their nose or something.
Did take her for a bath in the tub, and used a product for...
Weekly they get to walk freely around in the garden and always take hour long "baths" in my 21000 gallon koi fish pond. They have their own small pond inside of the fenced area, when the water is covered by ice I give them a bucket with fresh water on a daily basis.
I would think that is...
