    Coturnix noisy at night?

my coturnix are in a large outdoor aviary. even with our automatic backyard lights, they never seem to wake up. coturnix will wake up if there is excessive commotion around them, so i'd recommend keeping them in a room which stays dark and has little to no action during the night.

Debate: When do Quail Start Laying Eggs?

in my opinion the average age is around 10 weeks. earliest is definitely 5-6 weeks and latest is 12-14 weeks.

    Button Quail Identification

they look like they could be winged pieds? the thing about buttons is that the chicks usually completely change colors by the time they're fully grown. my roo looked like these chicks when he was small and at around 4 ish months old he was a red breasted.

Can you get quail to hatch their own eggs?

i havent had a broody yet, but i have done quite a bit of research on it. so first, you should probably have more than just 1 hide. i find that broodies enjoy areas with a low ceiling, so maybe a storage bin lid held up by some bricks. you also should make sure they arent stressed at all. so try...

anyone with the hatching time quail cages?

they are very small and i'm sure people here will disagree but I wouldn't ever recommend them to anyone. i'd recommend looking into building a custom wire floored cage instead if you want something easier to clean.

Poopy toes (and picking them up)

older birds who werent handled frequently from day one will be EXTREMELY hard to tame. and i dont mean "kinda hard but good luck".. i mean HARD. like it may take months if not years. generally though, quail do not like to be picked up, especially grabbed. since this isnt a "wait a while and see...

    Jumbo Coturnix Aren't Laying

7-9 weeks is still very young. you should only really worry if they dont start laying when they're around 12+ weeks. since they're still very young and just barely starting to lay, its going to be very inconsistent. after a week or two it should begin to level out though

    More "Natural" Quail Coop

mine is sorta natural. i have it cluttered with a lot of pots for hides as well as ferns. i dont have as many branches because they just take up space but large pieces of bark would be good as a little natural hide

    culling extra roos with c02?

im also doing some research on selling to a falconry. only issue is that i live in california and you need to pay tax and have a permit for breathing here. LOL

    culling extra roos with c02?

thanks for the reply. yeah i normally do it with a pair of scissors as well. i just get super stressed whenever cull time comes around because i dread it so much.

    culling extra roos with c02?

I was wondering if c02 was a humane way to put down my extra roos. I am NOT willing to dislocate the neck and chopping the head off is also a bit difficult for me.

    Laying quail feed

definitely dont give your birds medicated as it can effect the taste and quality of meat and eggs. IMO just get regular food and supplement it with mineral grit.
