Oh geez. All was well until the last week or two. We have a small flock of ducks - drakes included. The ducks were raised with our geese, a pair of Pilgrims, gander and goose. The gander has gone bananas. He jumps on chickens to breed them, he tries to breed the laying hens, everything but his...
Thank you for taking the time to share this. I really appreciate it. This doesn't seem to be the issue. The birds are all totally healthy, no issues there. Also, it's not blood spots or pale yolks. The blood is mixed in swirls. I will see if I can get cellphone service to upload a picture (it's...
Ok, thank you for the pictures. This is not what I'm dealing with. My yolks are completely ruptured so that when I crack the egg open, a slurry of cloudy yellowish stuff pours out with blood all around it, not blood drops, but streams running through the yolk/white slurry.
Thanks so much! Not all of them, but over half, I would say. Yes, they're all 18 months old. We butchered our last batch and started fresh, as we do, every couple of years. Yes, I could keep them locked up in their house, but it's so hot here that I hesitate to do that. How long do you think...
Thank you so much for your suggestions and ideas. Would heat do this? Do you think it could be because of how wet it is here? Nutrient issues in soil? They're running around our farm. There's all sorts of vegetation out here so unless some weird plant has just developed, I'm guessing that's not...
Nobody? I've spent hours on the internet and just can't find an answer. I've read some threads where others came here with this problem but never found a resolution. Anyone go through this and figure it out?
I would post pics if I wasn't on slow as molasses country internet. Suffice it to say the eggs look beautiful, but what you would expect to see of an egg that was well on its way to forming a chick: watery yolk that is cloudy and mixed in with the white, blood (not just a speck) and, sometimes...
Either we've been luck all of these years, or this is rare.. We've had egg laying birds for over a decade now. We are a small, mixed organic farm. Our present layers are a mix of heritage breeds. They've been with us for just over a year now. We have 18 hens and one roo. They all look happy and...
