I do everything possible to prevent loss to predation but that will not keep your chickens safe. My wife goes in to feed or water the chickens and one gets out and the dog gets it or they are free ranging and the cat gets one. All we can do is try to keep them safe. DO NOT blame yourself...
i lost a chicken a couple days ago to my daughter's cat. It would appear the cat was waiting under the coop and as a chicken walked by he must have grabbed the chicken. I found the hen under the coop when it was time for them to go in.
ok so the chicken died since posting the topic. what could have been wrong with her? there were no signs leading up to this. what would an impacted crop do and could that have been the cause? If not what do you think?
ok been letting chickens out for half days for free ranging. today after letting the chickens out my wife found one in the coop that she thought was dead. well she was basically lifeless and looked very sick. i have put some poly-vi-sol in her mouth with a dropper. Inside her mouth is what...
We have always given our chickens goat milk. Now they are just starting to lay and they have very thick shells. I have always wondered what side effects goat milk would have being high in protein and low in iron.
I feed my chickens a large bucket(gallon size ice cream bucket) of pellet layer feed. It is normally gone pretty quickly. Through out the day they get weeds from the gardens, spoiled fruits and anything that has bugs in it. They always seem very hungry. I am getting one egg a day but its...
ok well i was looking at "the pooh chart"
"This picture was taken after 2 days treatment with flubenvet. The worms are probably Ascaridia galli, they don't cause much harm to the birds unless they are present in large numbers. It is not unkown for them to enter the reproductive tract from...
got this one the day after my daughter was born. I kept telling my wife the hens were waiting on her to drop her "egg" first. I have had 4 total now all very small.
I just let my 2 year old into the run. He is more aggressive than any chicken, he walks right up to the roo grabs him and carries him around. Now my kids do not go into the run without me and my daughter closes the slide door on the coop to check for eggs. I don't WANT to eat the roo, so i...
mine are 4 and a half months old. They look very close to laying but nothing yet. Mine are white cali leghorns so they are sold white with 1-2 small black spots, not all have spots, with red combs and wattles. I dont have a picture of the hens red combs. Bobo the rooster is there in front.
My 5 year old son witnessed this. He stood at the fencing laughing. he told us that bobo, the rooster, was riding one of the hens. birds and the bees? It should be called hens and roosters.
the day my rooster attacks my wife or one of the kids will be his last day. NO bird of mine will hurt anyone like that and get away with it. If my dog attacks someone i would put her down and she is very useful. The rooster for the most part is pretty useless and he is lucky he hasn't been...
