Not to bust in on this thread, but I'm just wondering which do you all think is better to worm the birds with, the Valbazen or the Safegard? That is for someone that can orally dose them.
Thank you both for the good information, I am trying to see what I can find out through a Vet for the sister bird that's still living as far as what a blood test would possibly be able to find and also a necropsy for the one that passed.
I wasn't going to post this but then the more I thought about it, the more it bothered me. I bought 2 new polish pullets from a large poultry sale as I had planned to introduce them to my polish cockerel after a quarantine period and then some. The owner was not there and someone else sold...
I had changed mine to the Grower Finisher feed trying to find a commercial feed that didn't have really high calcium, protein, and fat as most my hens were 2 and older and a few displaying reproductive problems (lost 2 golden comets last summer within 2 months of each other). I took the advice...
Hi,
I have been having problems with one of my Buff Orpington hens displaying egg bound symptoms also, with the dragging bottom and barely walking, hardly eating. I did some research and found a product called Calciboost which is Liquid Calcium, Magnesium, and Vitamin D3. It's supposed to help...
I've been going through the same thing with an older hen but she has something going on internally that is making it hard for her to keep an empty crop (something made her organs or should I say gizzard shift), maybe egg mass or tumor. She had been ill before this started happening to her. I had...
That's wonderful Mitfordsmom that you got got more Ex Battery girls! I always tell my birds when I get them that I'm taking them to a better life. And in your case, that's definitely true.
Emilysteng, I know, it's confusing to me now what to feed my hens, I've talked to different people and...
I have all the hens buried by each other too. You are great for taking on ex battery hens, just think how much better you made their lives!
The price I was just quoted by a vet's office for the Lupron was $169.00 an injection and they said, like you, every two weeks at the beginning. I...
I'm so sorry! I'm sitting here at my desk at work all teared up for your little hen. I'm glad you had her somewhere she was happy. My Betty is not happy in the house! And I keep debating. God bless your Debbo, and at least she won't suffer anymore. I know they hide it a lot so who knows...
I don't know if I should call it a patch, for some reason I did, but what they were going to use was called a hormone implant, I think they called it DESLORELIN. I guess it works like birth control. For some reason I want to say it would last up to 6 months, not sure, and who knows the cost...
Emilysteng,
How many injections of Lupron has Casino had so far? I wonder how they judge if they are a candidate for this? Or maybe a trial like my hen with the Prednisone? She had a spell recently that made me think she was laying internally and she is passing the watery poo in the morning...
