    First couple eggs

12x12 enclosed area with a coop, sectioned off for roost and a 4x5 room for nests. I've got 22 birds to check haha so I'll get on that this morning and see how many are showing signs. Should I then seperate those birds or just keep up with fake eggs in the nests?

    First couple eggs

So I have 18-19weeks old (Red Sex Link) and 16-17weeks old (barred rock & a large mixed breed unknown) I found the first tiny egg, then less than a week later I found a l/xl egg on the ground, hard but with green goo inside. It's been two+ weeks since I've seen anything! I put fake eggs in the...

    14 weeks gender

Oh good, less males than I thought! And whatever tractor supply got, huge birds though. So we got a small round egg then a large egg that looks to be colored light blue, which is why I thought the ee/americauna variety. Do the first eggs laid have an odd color? Here are the only pictures I got.

    14 weeks gender

Roughly 14 weeks old can we tell gender yet? My Red Sex Links look so different! These I am thinking are americauna but still unsure. What do ya think? :)

    Useless leg

I've got a chicken about 5-6 weeks that has a useless leg. Not sure breed, was a mix up at tsc. Had one other chick of the same at age 2 weeks that had it and died. It seems fine other than that leg. It eats, drinks and makes its way around our large coop. I have 24 other chickens that are...

    Forgot to introduce myself

Hello y'all! I'm a southern girl from Alabama thrown into Hobbs, NM. Haha my first time owning chickens. Started with 30 about 2 months ago, now I have 25 Red sex links, barred rocks and the unknown. Tractor supply messed up our order. No worries I love chickens! I found this site on google and...

    How did I do?

I tried to sperate the ones I thought were males. How'd I do? This breed is up in the air. I've heard, broiler, EE, Ameraucana. Based off pictures another member showed me the barred rock are males due to the coloring, am I corrct with these?

    EE maybe?

My husband said we could only keep one rooster and that was a stretch. So how do you pick the "best" rooster? Or should that question be posted elsewhere? Still learning the ropes here!

    EE maybe?

Oooh well I have two roos of those then. Darn! Thank you for the info!!

    EE maybe?

So is the comb a sign, if it's bigger than the rest, that it's a male? Or is that breed specific? I've got a barred rock too that shows a bigger comb.
