Help!! My Salmon Faverolle often lays shell-less/broken eggs

Can you tell me the brand of the vitamin/electrolyte supplement you use? There is not a Tractor Supply store very close to me but perhaps I can find it somewhere else and give it a try. Thanks!

    Faverolles Thread

Hi, thanks for the reply! My hen was only sick due to an egg breaking inside her which she couldn't get out. that one we had to flush out over several days, since it was so crusted inside her when we found it. She has been with the other hen since she was 10 weeks old, so she is very used to...

    Faverolles Thread

Thanks, everyone, for your advice. Our Faverolles is a family pet, so I was hoping to find someone who might know a way to help her. If it's not a breed trait, then perhaps she has a genetic mutation that is causing this to happen :-( We did get her from a hatchery, and not a breeder, so...

Help!! My Salmon Faverolle often lays shell-less/broken eggs

Well, she had some soft eggs in the summer too, when the coop gets full sun for most of the day, but not as frequently, I could try supplementing her with vitamin D. How do you do that? I don't really want to mess with the main food supply, because my other hen is fine. And, as a side note...

    Faverolles Thread

I have a question for those of you who are experienced with Faverolles. I hope this is the right place to post this. I am not that good with forums :-) My question is: Do Faverolles often lay weak shelled or shell-less eggs? I only have one and although she gets laying feed with calcium and...

Help!! My Salmon Faverolle often lays shell-less/broken eggs

Yes, they are in an outdoor pen all the time. It's not always direct sun due to the winter sun now, but there are always streams of sunlight that filter through during the day, so part of the coop almost always has sunlight in it somewhere.

Help!! My Salmon Faverolle often lays shell-less/broken eggs

Help! I have a one-year old Salmon Faverolle who frequently lays soft eggs. She is fed laying feed with calcium, plus she has oyster shell and crushed eggs shells available to eat at all times. Almost 1 out of every 10 eggs breaks upon laying, sometimes inside her. Once she became very sick...

Speckled Sussex Pullet or Roo? PLEASE HELP :-)

Ignorant? I feel that is better than breaking it's neck, which is what a lot of people around here do! I am trying to deal with this the humane way.

Speckled Sussex Pullet or Roo? Please help me figure this out :-)

Thanks! If that's the case then we have to get rid of him :-( No roosters allowed in the city!!!

Speckled Sussex Pullet or Roo? Please help me figure this out :-)

We have a 6 week old SS that is supposed to be a pullet, but I'm beginning to think it's a roo. I am wondering if SS pullets get combs and waddles this big by 6 weeks old? Thanks so much for your help!!

Speckled Sussex Pullet or Roo? PLEASE HELP :-)

Thank you 3riverschick! I was thinking since the bird is only 6 weeks old and already has such a defined comb and waddles that it must be a roo. It was also late in getting it's tail feathers, which I thought was a sign of a rooster. Do SS hens develop early combs like this one? This bird...
