Great Words We Don't Speak - Slang that gets confused looks when it slips out, today

Three of my Wyandottes pal around together and are the only ones who routinely fly out of the run and go on adventures together. I refer to them as the BFFs or the Offenders. The Lead Offender is my avatar here.

    Hello from Rhode Island!

Our Buff Orpingtons have been the hardiest chickens we have ever had. My most recent flock started six years ago, with 3 Buff Orpingtons, a Black Copper Maran, 2 Barred Rocks, and a Black Australorp. None of the other breeds are still with us, but all three Orpingtons are, and they are still...

Welcome to BYC! Enjoy your EEs--you can pick up sexed Orpingtons later. So many kinds to choose from! I have Buff Orpingtons and am getting Jubilee and BBS Orpington chicks in May.

Are there ANY grasses/weeds/plants that can withstand chickens in their run?

Both are very pretty. I have several dark maroon bushes and they are gorgeous. White would look nice with the purple you already have. Getting an established bush might work best. They grow fast and as long as you protect the base, once they get above chicken eating level, they will keep...

Are there ANY grasses/weeds/plants that can withstand chickens in their run?

Butterfly bush is hardy in New Hampshire to zone 5. My bushes lose their leaves in winter but it comes back quickly in spring.

Are there ANY grasses/weeds/plants that can withstand chickens in their run?

I have a 13-foot by 18-foot run attached to my main run that contains raspberries and gooseberries. They both survived last year, though the chickens ate the low foliage. I suspect this year's new raspberry shoots are doomed to consumption. However, the gooseberry tops did not get eaten, and...

Need advice for the best vines and plants for in a chicken run!

One of my chicken runs has raspberries and gooseberries growing inside it. I doubt new raspberry canes will survive the chickens this year, but the gooseberries have bud swell and will leaf out this year as they did last year. The chickens will eat the berries ad leaves up to almost three...

    Hello!

Welcome to BYC from a fellow upstate New Yorker. I'm sorry to hear of your loss to bobcats. So far my flock has been fortunate, even though I know we have had bobcats, opossum, fox, hawks, weasels, and raccoons around. I have seen all but the bobcats on my property, and I have heard those in...

Welcome to BYC. I love both your location and philosophy. I lived in the desert southwest for years and still return there for spiritual reasons.

Welcome to BYC. I provide roosts in my open run, and maintain two trees and some gooseberry bushes in the run that they can navigate around. I'll be transplanting some highbush cranberry if Spring ever gets here to provide cover and fun. I have an inexpensive mirror in the run they like to...

Welcome to BYC! You have a great setup there and a good plan with lots of projects to keep you busy. I'm in the snowbelt of upstate NY just south of Lake Ontario, where we have already had over 130 inches of snow this season with about two feet on the ground. I have to shovel pathways to...
