Mobile coop on an old trailer frame

In a previous thread I asked some advise regarding a mobile chicken coop. There was very valuable input and advise in what needs to be considered, even more in our area, to keep our chickens safe especially at night...

    PVC Chicken tractor with shadecloth

We have been very hard at work planning and building our mobile chicken coop. We made good progress. It is nothing what we discussed at first, it is much better and safer. We are already raising our 33 mix breed layer chicks that will stay in the coop...

    PVC Chicken tractor with shadecloth

Hi paintedChix, After reading the comments, we do now realise that a more secure tractor to protect the chickens at night is a must, although the electrified poultry fence will always be on. It will keep them away until they find that sweet spot to get over, under or however to the other side...

    PVC Chicken tractor with shadecloth

Thank you for your thoughts, it is valuable. Yes, we have predators and hope to keep them out with the electrified netting (height: 1.12m)...? To name some we have seen: caracal, jackals, genets, serval wild cat, African wild cat and civet.

    PVC Chicken tractor with shadecloth

Good day, We have invested in portable electrified poultry netting to fence off an area for geese and chickens. The next step is to build a safe portable coop/tractor for the chickens were they can stay overnight (within the fenced off area), protected from the elements of nature. A chicken...

Frikkie's Miracle Survival and Recovery [includes graphic images]

@CCUK the hens are doing very well. Amazing to experience each one's unique character. They just love to sand bath and I love watching them when they do! I can see that even 5 hens are not enough for one rooster :hmm. Hopefully in the near future we will be able to build a BIG coop and then I...

Frikkie's Miracle Survival and Recovery [includes graphic images]

They are great! For the past 10 days, I have been treated with one egg a day. Lovely to see how they adapt to their new surroundings and how they are getting braver every day to stay out in the chicken yard for longer times. This is Rakkaus, she is the explorer and the tamest of them all. She...

@CCUK thank you for recommending the plastic drinkers, I found one at a shop in town and I am happy with my choice. Bought the 12 liter drinker. Added 4 new hens (Lohman Brown) to the flock, today is the 3rd day and seems like they have all accepted each other. Just a couple of pictures...

Frikkie's Miracle Survival and Recovery [includes graphic images]

Frikkie is doing very well and gets very upset when I remove him from the tractor to take him inside where he has been sleeping up to date. 2 Days back my husband convinced me that Frikkie is strong and the weather is still warm so Frikkie will be fine sleeping outside in the tractor, and so...

Frikkie's Miracle Survival and Recovery [includes graphic images]

First day in the tractor :wee Frikkie was hiding in the coop area most of the day, very cautious and not trusting his surroundings (neither would I if I was him).

Frikkie's Miracle Survival and Recovery [includes graphic images]

I left the skin/scab on and just continued to apply ointment. About 16 hours ago (17 days since the day Frikkie was attacked) the skin/scab came off accept for one small area, but the loose skin was dangling by his foot so I cut it off, about 1 cm from where it was still attached. The scab that...

Frikkie's Miracle Survival and Recovery [includes graphic images]

Hi all, Frikkie is still going strong! The past 3 days I took him outside during the day (he still sleeps inside every night) and left him with Frieda in a confined space where I can still keep a close eye on him. I get paranoid whenever I see a fly, those maggots disturbed my peace of mind I...
