    Bald, irritated butt/underbelly.

Thank you for the advice! I’ll contact my co-op to see if I can get something higher protein for them. Thank you again!! 🥰

    Bald, irritated butt/underbelly.

Thank you for the reply! I figure that might be the cause. They have a 13x16 covered run and a 4x6x5 sleeping area with multiple roosting bars/nesting boxes and access to an 8x12 'shed' when its too cold to go outside. They eat 16% countryrite layer feed, which is the only feed I have access to...

    Bald, irritated butt/underbelly.

Hi! I have a very cooperative 8 month old Noiran with a sore, featherless bottom. It doesn't feel hard or have any visible pus, a few scabs but they do not appear infected. It happened between this health check and last (about a week apart). I have yet to catch anyone bullying her but I am...

Not Urgent. Wrinkly skin, bald patches on neck.

Thank you for your reply! I’ll keep an eye on them for the next few nights to see if she is being picked at.

Not Urgent. Wrinkly skin, bald patches on neck.

Hi Chicken lovers! I was doing health checks today and noticed my 3 year old Orpington has missing feathers on either side of her neck, her skin is really crinkly/wrinkly with a few red spots, which I haven't seen before when she has molted in the past. There are flecks of (possibly) dry skin...

    Random Rantings.

I'm hoping here is a good place to have a rant! RANT: Red mites can frig right off. I'm in Canada so I can't get all the products talked about online (as most sites are in the US), DOKTOR DOOM is the only thing I can get locally. I can't shake the creepy crawly feeling no matter how many showers...

    Osprey Hanging Around

Thank you for your reply! Since I posted this last year we have reinforced our outdoor run they have brush and shelters outside but we also don't let them go out unsupervised. I'm definitely not interested in trapping anything. I'm also not sure of the provincial legislation regarding that here...

    Osprey Hanging Around

Thank you for your reply! It reinforces my caution. I also live on the east coast of Canada (NL) so we see them every now and again and we've been seeing more eagles this year than last. I'm sorry about your chickens being taken.

Bald spot on 2 day old chick

I figured that could be the case! My other chicks didn’t get bald so early. Thank you for your reply ☺️

Bald spot on 2 day old chick

Hi all! I just picked up my chicks yesterday and one of them had a bald spot that increased in size since yesterday. I haven’t seen her being picked on by our other chick. I also moved the brooder plate up just in case it was too low. It doesn’t look irritated, just strange. She’s not as...

    Osprey Hanging Around

This definitely gives me some comfort! Luckily we haven’t seen hawks around (yet), this is the only ‘raptor’ we had since I started one year ago. I’m so sorry to hear about your previous experience with hawks, it can’t be easy!

    Osprey Hanging Around

Hi all! There have seen several Osprey hanging around our place this week. I heard them before I saw them and let me tell you, I have never collected my chickens so fast in my life! They have been in their covered run ever since, but I feel bad not letting them free range. I definitely value...

    Grit is Unavailable ATM

Thank you for the comparison! I'm lucky enough that the natural soil here is very rocky, so I have a lot of variety of sizes.
