    Thank you. Yes it's a molt. Gertie is now losing her larger feathers. I have feathers everywhere. I read an article that stated not all hens go according to the book. Since Gertie has been different from a young age, I think she just rolls to her own beat.

    The protein they are getting. And I have calcium and grit free feeding in the yard for them. Sometimes I will toss some out for them to forage. But the sardines also have calcium. I am also doing ACV, with mother, in their daily water. Our weather has been really cool and overcast this summer.

    I started to keep a log to see if I find any patterns. My one is starting to molt, see my response lower in the thread, so that could be what is starting about now.

I supplement with sardines for protein, fresh for other nutrients, sometimes as a treat live composte worms and dried meal worms for treats.
