Hi! I'm so sorry for the late response! Thank you so much for your advice, which I ended up following. I introduced the New Jersey Giant and Lavender Orpington together to the flock about a month ago.
Interestingly, after being introduced together, the broody hen quickly adopted BOTH the giant...
Hi! I don't often post here, and I'm still a little new to the forums. However, I searched for an answer to the situation I'm in with no luck in finding an answer.
I have a 4-week-old Lavender Orpington who, for about a week now, I've raised (in a sort of quarantine) with her "sister," a 2...
Thank you so much for your help! We are thinking that we will be able to keep Mop, as we read that Sizzles tend to be quieter than other breeds.
Yes, the one in Mop's cage is the one we received with him/ her (Dusty Odette), and the breeder says they are the same age.
We are waiting a little...
Sorry if there are any typos, I'm on my phone.
Here are some more pictures:
They are still pretty little, so we keep them inside. They every once in a while chest bump, but the smaller one (Dusty Odette) chest bumps right back. Mop does stand tall every once in a while, but that's usually...
Oh, wait, I just spoke with the original breeder, and she says we were told the wrong age (We did think they looked a little too big for 6-8 weeks old)! They are actually 10 weeks old (about 2 and a half months old) and all of their possible mothers (they weren't totally sure which one was the...
Well, they look about the same age to me, although the pullet looks a little bit younger.
I'd say that the pullet is a little bit older than what you were told, but only by a little bit. Maybe 5-6 months?
You could also try looking up the different age-stages of Silkies on google?
I hope this...
Hmmm, I looked up Silkie roosters, and that sure looks like one...
Maybe you should google it too and have a look for yourself? You know your chicken better than I do, after all!
Good luck! Figuring out a chicken's gender can be very hard to do.
Thank you for answering, ashtree! I guess my family and I will figure out what to do next, it's the crowing that we're most worried about...
But thank you once again!
I need help figuring out whether one of our Sizzles is a boy or a girl. He/she is about 6-8 weeks old, she is about 9-10 inches tall, and he/she is named Mop (yes, it is named Mop). We got it from a friend who could no longer take care of it and its friend, (sibling, maybe) who I think is a girl...
