A month later and I'm even more clueless. Black and white has what I believe is called a spangled pattern, but no spangled breeds look like (him?). Still clueless about the buff as well. I suppose they could just be mixed breeds.
My niece's class hatched some chicks and I am now the lucky recipient of two of them. I know its hard, but just curious if the breed jumps out at anyone. The black and white one has a pretty wide comb (rose?). They don't appear to be bantams.
I'm using root mulch for my duck run and that has been working better for me than pine shavings or straw. Your local garden center probably sells it in bulk by the yard, and the price just can't be beat compared to other options. It will take much longer for the mulch to break down than...

I just picked up these Muscovy ducks from a farm and was wondering if the black is a pied ripple, just a ripple (not pied), or a blue ripple??? Hard to tell being color blind!
Thanks,

Her growth rate was/is extremely slow. In that last picture she is about 20 weeks old and you can still see that she is just getting pin feathers in her neck area. She was about 2 months old before she doubled in size. Her sister died fairly young I believe due to complications with mites, but...
I made a previous post asking what breed this chicken was and we came to a conclusion that it was a silkie mix. Now I am curious if she is a Frizzle or Frazzle (or Sizzle or Sazzle if thats a thing). Her hair is really curly. Here is an age progression of her.
