I was having the same problem with mine. If it's the kind that has the standard car tire valve stem, make sure the tiny valve with the push-pin trigger itself is screwed in tight. That fixed my problem.

i don't know when you posted this, but did you have it suspended or sitting on the ground? It needs to be hanging so the weight of the bowl will activate the spring. i know this because i had it sitting on a level platform and was having the exact same problem. In fact, i was in mid-tantrum...
