    I read where slitting the throat from ear to ear is the best way to get the best bleed and that cutting off the head you'll get half to 2/3 as much as you need to. Severing the spine will work, but it will lead to tougher meat and you'll have to soak the remaining blood out of the carcass.

    How often do you collect the eggs? Can the chickens get to them before you gather them? You may have an egg eater--they leave nothing behind. This would explain why their shells are still hard.

    Coons will pull off the heads through the run wire. If this is being done and the predator has access to the whole bird it's probably something else. Weasels? Maybe an owl, but owls carry off the whole bird or pick the ribcage clean. I read this earlier today...

    I wish I had wings too! The run area is aprox 192'sq. The coop is 96'sq. If l There will be a free-range door at the back of the run to funnel them down the steep, leafy, bug-filled hill and away from my front porch--been there done that. I want them close to the house because I lost the 37 out...
