Hi all,
We were gifted an antique brooder—an Oakes MFG., 801A.
It works great—we are using it for a 2nd round of chicks now.
Any one have a sense of how old this brooder might be? Are there groups that collect items like this?
Thank you!
Update: have kept her warm, given her electrolytes, 2 syringes of sulfadimethoxine (sp?), and diluted plain yogurt. (Our local Tractor Supply was out of Corid, but said this would do the trick.) She drinks painstakingly slowly when I dribble it onto her beak, but I do think some is getting in...
Oh dear! You could be right. We moved them out at 2 months because we were having excellent weather (75* and up), but then the storms brought a cold front in! She's comfy inside now and I plan on getting the Corid tomorrow, so we'll see! *fingers crossed*
Update: I have dropped some electrolyte water onto her beak and *hopefully* some is getting in. I am fairly certain that she is suffering from coccidiosis, as she recently poo'd and it was bloody. I don't have any Corid on hand...does anyone know where I can get some as soon as possible?? If she...
Hi all,

Teila,
Thanks for the response! I hadn't thought about that, but it's definitely a possibility...we'll have to check the bag tomorrow and see if we can find any bugs. We do have a large number of beetles around this time of year....
Hi all,
We're fairly new to chickens, but something has occurred in our coop that we absolutely can't explain.
In our coop, we store extra nesting material (pine shavings) in its original bag, away from the nesting boxes. It had a small hole in it (just enough for a hand to pull out some new...
