I just toss the Diatomaceous Earth into their coop. Usually where they've started a dust bath in the dirt. And they take it from there. My Guineas were having a good time taking their bath. All 14 of them at once.. Whereas my chickens will take turns.
I have 2 Roosters that I know of, one is an Easter Egger and the other one we think is a Bared Rock. I'm sure this will be a really dumb question, but do the Roosters have to be the same breed as the hens for them to fertilize the eggs??? I'm still learning as this is my first flock of chickens.
Hi,
I'm fairly new to raising chickens. I bought my first 4 baby chick's back in March 2022, next 7 Chick's in May, and 15 Guineas arrived in June. We are working on being a self-sufficient farm. I've been reading a lot about raising chicken for eggs, but when it comes to hatching new chick's...
Hi,
I just started my flock back in March with 4 Orpingtons. They just started laying this past week, and We've gotten a total of 9 eggs. The eggs are small, but I've been told they tend to start out small and will eventually reach the normal size for their breed. They lay at random times of the...
We just started our flock with 4 Buff Orpingtons and got our first egg on Friday from one of our ladies, and a second egg yesterday from another on. Hoping the other 2 ladies start laying soon.
Not something I hope I'd ever have to do, but I know that in the state I live in, if someone's dog's are harassing or killing my livestock I can shoot the dogs. If I know who the dogs belong to I would definitely let them know if their dogs are not controlled and they come back to my farm and go...
I use Diatomaceous Earth for dusting my chickens. I just put a pile of it in the area I see them taking a dirt bath. It's also what I use on red ants, roaches and for fleas and ticks on puppies and kittens under 8 weeks old. It's one of the best things I've for getting rid of the pest.
Hi, Thanks. Guineas are like taking care of chickens, except when I feed them I just put there food on the ground. They don't eat out of the feeders, they like to scratch for their food. And I give them a bit more dried grasshoppers and worms.
Hi,
I knew I wanted Guineas to help with pest control and snakes. But the 7 extra chick's were an impulse buy. I started with 4 Orpingtons and then ordered my Guineas. But a trip to Tractor Supply one day, and I saw they had some Easter Eggers. Which were some I'd wanted to get. So I picked up 4...
Hi,
I'm Kit, and I just moved to a place where I can have chickens. I started with 4 baby chick's, then several months later I picked up 7 more along with 14 guinea fowl. We just finished our third chicken coop and are getting it ready for the 7 chickens new home. The 14 Guineas are housed in an...
