@Hinotori Haha, small world! The shed had a lot of really great pictures on Amazon of people converting it to a chicken coop so I felt pretty confident about using it for that. It's been great so far, definitely glad I went with a plastic shed over a metal shed for the heat. I'll probably cover...
Also posting for fun, here's the before of the Eglu Cube:
And here's the after of the new plastic shed conversion:
Definitely loving how much more space the chickens have at night (timely, given the extra heat) although it's taking them some time and lots of screaming to get used to the...
Yep, like Hinotori said: https://www.omlet.us/shop/chicken_keeping/portable-chicken-coop-eglu-go-up/ (coop only, no run).
Definitely agreed a lot of the prefab wood coops you see in TSC etc aren't great. I switched to Omlet's coops from our first wood coop because we had a lot of issues with...
Would anyone in the greater Seattle / South King County area be interested in a used Omlet Eglu Go coop? We recently upgraded to a shed coop to make room for a few more chickens and no longer need this smaller coop. It's great as either a quarantine coop for sick chickens, broody coop, or small...
https://www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/ourfocus/animalhealth/animal-disease-information/avian/avian-influenza/hpai-2022/2022-hpai-commercial-backyard-flocks has that information on latest cases. Scroll down past the map and to "List of Detections by Day", you can type in "Washington" to filter by our...
Super sad to hear about the WA bird flu cases, I was really crossing my fingers it wouldn't reach the west coast.
We already had a tarp covering the top of our run, but I clipped bird netting and other mesh we had lying around to the sides of the run (which has larger 1"+ wire holes around the...
Hey y'all! Just thought I'd update the thread. I ended up selling 2 of the Wyandotte chicks and have just 2 remaining - are we still thinking pullets? They're now 10 weeks old. Everytime I walk up to them their combs look so red compared to the Ameraucanas haha, it's totally psyching me out.
1...
Definitely could work, they're likely to poop all over it though if you're fine sacrificing it :) I ended up wearing thicker long-sleeved jackets for my future chick batches just due to time of year and temperature, so that solved that problem for me. Their nails rounded out as they got older.
Adorable!! I'd 100% be willing to buy an older pullet for $30. Around what week/date would you be willing to sell them? I can set a reminder for myself to DM you then.
Thanks y'all!!
Just curious, does it matter if 2 of the 4 had really short tails, patchy shoulders, & slower feathering at the 3-4 week mark? I read somewhere that was a roo tell and marked those 2 with blu-kote just for my own curiousity, but as they've aged up those 2 don't seem to have any...
Hey y'all! I've gotten better at detecting roos but these Wyandottes have me baffled. They pinked up super early and I go from thinking they're half pullets/half roos to all roos to all pullets every other day. I know I might have to wait longer on these chicks and am happy to post updates for...
Any chance you could post pics (+ of the parents so I can get an idea of what they look like)? This is my first time hearing of this coloration for Orpingtons and I'm super interested and would be willing to make the drive down!
Couple other questions to ask:
- Are they vaccinated?
- Do you...
Awww :hugs I definitely remember being super anxious and stressing over my first batch of baby chicks. If it helps, it DOES get better and way easier once you have a setup that you know works for you and your chicks. It's almost too easy for me now, to the point where I only have to check in on...
