How do you manage your compost to stop your chickens eating rotting food and getting sick?

I had seen this and it looks brilliant. I'm guessing that he maybe doesn't deal with much mould due to climate, or perhaps the sheer number of chickens means any tasty mould prone fruits (like strawberries) just don't last long enough to get mouldy.

How do you manage your compost to stop your chickens eating rotting food and getting sick?

Thank you everyone for your replies. I'm quite happy with our current set up (except that it takes up a lot of space in our chicken free area) but was curious about those who choose to have open set ups that their chickens have free access to (I've read more than a few posts in here where people...

How do you manage your compost to stop your chickens eating rotting food and getting sick?

I'm interested in hearing from people who allow their chickens to free roam on their compost heaps as I'm confused about the risk posed by them eating rotting or mouldy food. I know we aren't supposed to allow chickens to eat food like this, but I'm completely confused about how to prevent it if...

    Keeping Them In? (Master Escapees)

We had a fence that was about the same height and I watched one of my girls jump straight up onto the top of it (bare wire), and then flap down over the other side. She hadn't even flapped her wings getting up there, it was just a straight jump. If I hadn't actually seen her do it I probably...

    I Need Some Advice

I can understand why this leaves a bad taste in your mouth as it sounds like they are saying to expect to be disappointed with their product, but what I *think* they mean is that sometimes when looking at photos, people can make incorrect assumptions about scale even if the measurements are...

The photos really helped clarify the difference for me between hard and soft molts.

Further update: it's likely worms are an issue, despite no other indications. I have since sighted worms and eggs in one's poops so will be working tomorrow. Thanks to everyone who replied.

Is this worms in her poop? *Photo included*

As an Aussie I'm probably not in the best position to comment. Have you seen the wing nuts we generally elect?

Odd Canadian humour sounds very similar to odd Australian humour.

Is this worms in her poop? *Photo included*

I spent the afternoon watching my chicken's poop (I know how to party, clearly) and I have found the possible cause: worms. Whilst I didn't witness any of my girls do the watery poop, I did see eggs and worms in a fresh poop. Glad I saw it straight after she did it, as the sneaky buggers had...

Is this worms in her poop? *Photo included*

I haven't been able to find another that looks like it. I just went out and poop scooped my yard, and all the poops since I looked this morning are normal looking (solid, brown, white cap, or the occasional dark brown, stinky cecal poop). The chicken I suspect it came from (our oldest, ex...
