Im assuming my 8 week old quail is having air sac issues (or rupture?) His abdomen and back of head swelled up so large and tight I honestly thought he could pop.
I used a pit tag needle to allow some draining of whatever it may have been. It was air/gas ONLY, no fluids whatsoever. It was...
Where can I find the "age" groups.
Whats considered an adult, whats a pullet (someone said a chemically castrated roo?!?! I thought it was just an age description!) Yikes.
The Buff Orping is only 10 weeks, not an adult, can she go with the slightly younger 2 hens?
OK, so my coop's almost done and a store near me has chicks I'd like to purchase 2 of (white leg and a aracuna? (sp? One of the EE'ers I think you guys call em) and a guy up the road sells some Buff Orping's that I'd like to have one of. The BO is 10 weeks and the store has hens that are young...
Here is my son watering the box turtle pen. Those are native blanket flowers...
Lets see if the picture post's...even though this isn't "Back yard turtle forum". (Turtles are my hubby's thing, not mine.)
YEY! It worked! LOL Its a dark pic though, I shoulda lightened it up.
Is it true that the chickens will attract predators...in general? My husband has a large box turtle pen and is NOT HAPPY that I will be getting 3 hens because they will go after his turtles if they are just "attracted" to the area in general.
Yeesh...
Thank you! Starting with 3 was the plan anyhow. I'll be fencin goff an area the tractor itself will be in so they can free roam through an orchard area and we can sit with them on weekends and goof off. But most of their time will be in the coop tractor so I want it to be spacious!
Whats the standard square foot per chicken on the out side run? Mine will be 8'x4' and I ws thinking 4-6 hens? Would they be happy with that? Could I add one or two more?
I'm very new to this...but I want happy & healthy peeps!
Nicole
Lunachick,
Thanks! (My names an old camp councler name I've had that never left! ;P)
Well, I would like a few Buff Orpingtons, RIR, Cornish rock and Plymouth rock's if they are still there by the time my coops ready! I'd REALLY, REALLY like a black frizzle or a shizzle, but no one has them...
OK...I'm a newby...EE?
She is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!! The neck feathers...wow.
I'll go research in breeds, but if someone posts what EE is first, you win! LOL:P
UPDATE: She's an easter egger?!?!
Hi Everyone!
I'm excited to find this forum and learn all I can. I'm building my first chicken tractor and will be getting my girls Monday! I'm going to start out with 10 week old hens.
I'm really enjoying learning all the breeds and how to keep them together and happy. I'll have to post...
