Thanks for the response! Nobody is home rn so we can't take photos but we think we ruled out sour crop bc she shows no signs of it other than a squishy crop and gurgling but the crop might be bc she drinks so much water. Her poop looks totally normal and healthy still. But we can check fir worms!
Hey! So recently one of our smaller babies has gotten sick. She is half a year old but still half the size she is supposed to be. She is a buff cochin bantam. We think she is so small because her and her brothers got coccidia but we treated them. Anyways, it's winter now and there is snow on the...
Alright last update.. unfortunately my mom had to euthanize him. The x-rays were not super clear but there was so much swelling it blurred out his hip bone on the pics. They stuck a syringe in the swollen spot to see if it was a tumor and there was fluid. But thank you guys so much for helping!! <3
It's possible a possum broke in... A chicken or a divider wouldn't puncture an egg but possums do. They break it a bit and lick out the yolk. Possums are really sneaky too so it's hard to find evidence. If you are worried about predators you can always have a trap set
Honestly it's kinda hard to tell in the photos but the location isn't a horrible one. Make sure her crop is ok. Also make sure she's eating and drinking and can use her wings. It doesn't look too bad to me but stitching it up wouldn't be bad either. Put some vetericyn spray on her. We also use...
You can try but she probably won't accept it. We have had one hen steal another's babies but they were all hatched the same day. A week is a pretty long time but you can try and see what she does. Be careful though because the other chick is probably much bigger and the mama might leave the...
We had raccoons, possums and coyotes! We have a guardian dog now, but before that we baited them and shot them. We used canned cat food mostly but also marshmallows and chicken. Anything super smelly works good!
Yea we are prepared for it to be a tumor cause that's the only other explanation we can think of! We r gonna take him to my mom's work and see if they can x ray him. The things we do for the chickens!! Praying that it is indeed a dislocation 🤞 Thank you so much!! Will kpost an update tommorow
Omg I hope it's a dislocation vs a tumor!! My mom it a vet tech actually but she doesn't work with birds. She does know people that do though, maybe we can bring him to one of them and see if they can help?? Would his lower foot really get swollen though with a dislocation around the hip?
Update on my boy! We left him with the others last night, my mom put him in a carrier today because we both had to leave the house and she wanted him separate but he got too hot when I got home so I moved him into a nice larger wire kennel outside instead of in the porch. Hes lol comfy now and...
Thanks for the input! The swollen part isn't really visible all you can see is a lump but you can feel it well. He's a salmon faverolle so the roos don't fight much at all and he doesn't have any other injury tho he is reluctant to open the wing on the side of his hurt leg? We think it's also...
Ok we looked at it more and there is no cuts or bruising. It's around his knee kinda too. We r worried it's a tumor of some sort. He still eats and drinks tho and isn't pale or lethargic..
