    One of my muscovy hens hatched out 19 the first hatch of the spring. Later hatches were smaller. When she hatched 19, there was either one or two eggs that didn't hatch.

    The ducks don't know anything about the time change. They simply lay early in the morning. I would think that as the sun rises later and later, they will also lay later and later.

    What carries off chickens, one at a time, and leaves no evidence?

    I've lost probably a dozen young (20 weeks or less) dual purpose chickens over the last month. They free range during the day. Think they are disapearing at dusk, but that's just a guess. I've found no plucked feathers, no blood, no remains, I'm just short a chicken when I go out to lock them...

    Has anyone been to the Okmulgee Livestock Auction? Do you know what their commission on goat sales is? I know they had a sale yesterday August 16th. Do they sell every Tuesday, every other Tuesday, Every third Tuesday or what?

    fool proof / waste free feeders?

    I use the feeders made by jimsbirdhouse "the Best ever Quail feeder". I also use it for young chicks. They are extremely efficient and very little waste.

    why does my muscovie duck not incubate her eggs

    I had a couple this year that didn't sit until they had over 20 eggs. give her time. They also hatched out almost every one they sat on.

    Is this just heat stress?

    Is the pool in the shade? If not, it can heat up quickly. Do you refill the pool with cool water regularly? My ducks use the pool throughout the day, but when I refill it with cool water in the evening, its a party.

    Letting Birds out

    If you let them out, there is a good chance they won't all return. They will put themselves to bed...unless a hawk gets them during the day. They are like potato chips to hawks. Can't eat just one.

    Use the pennies/nickels in place of washers. Have to drill a hole through them, then use them with screws to secure the hardware cloth to the wood.
