Hello everyone, I hope everyone is okay during this crazy mixed up 2020 so far!! At the end of February, I purchased 6, less than a week old, pullets. The girls are now approximately 8 and half months old. Four of them are laying sometimes but I have 2 Americana girls that started laying then...

    Broody duck

I have some sad news! Over the labor day weekend, I lost 2 of my female ducks and the eggs one of them was sitting on to a raccoon! The raccoon has been trapped and relocated miles away. My other 4 ducks now stay in the coop at night. Maybe I will get lucky and my Khaki Campbell girl will want...

    Broody duck

She did freak out when I first put the pen up around her house but she is fine now!! Food and water are as far away as possible. When I checked on her this morning, she had left the nest to drink and take a swim in her water pan. Will keeping posting as to what transpires.

    Broody duck

Thanks for the info, I did not know that. I guess I should have said she is laying on an empty nest and has been for about 2 weeks now. She gets very upset when anything disturbs her. I placed 2 eggs from my other ducks in her nest this morning while she was out forging. I will keep an eye on...

    Broody duck

Awesome set up! I have a homemade gate that my husband made for my babies when I was introducing them to the rest of the flock. I will get it out and keep the 5 other ducks away from her. I have 2 other ducks that are laying eggs, so this morning I took their eggs and placed them in her nest...

    Broody duck

Hello everyone!!! My 6 month old, fawn and white runner duck has decided to go broody. Her nest is in the duck house, she has piled the sides high with straw and feathers. My question is, she has not laid any eggs in the nest or anywhere else that I am aware of, should I be concerned or just...

New Rooster added to established flock

I tried that last night and he got me on the wrist. Didn't break the skin but left a bruise. I think it was because a couple of the girls were eating out of the bucket as I was trying to show him what I had. I will try again tonight. Thanks so much!! Stacy

New Rooster added to established flock

Thanks everyone for the words of wisdom. I have only been a chicken mama for a year now, so I'm still new to all of this. You guys on here have sure helped me understand and learn a lot. I am planning on keeping Mr. Roo for now. I believe with time we will learn to come to an understanding that...

New Rooster added to established flock

Yes, I believe my girls free range. I have a fenced in run that is probably 100 - 120 yards long by 20 yards wide with trees and brush for them to forge through. No small children, my son is 15 and bigger than me. So no problem there. My husband or myself want no chance at trying to catch him to...

New Rooster added to established flock

I did read your article and it was very informative. I do wear boots, jeans and long sleeve when I go out to take care of the girls. I have been trying to ignore him but still keep a watchful eye on him. I make slow movements and try not to show him that I am a threat to him or the girls...
