The 5th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I have a question. Sorry if this has been asked already. There are so many pages of posts for this Easter hatch along, I would be here all day searching! Why is the set date for chicken eggs the 29th? 21 days from that (hatching day) would be April 18th, not the day before Easter. What am I missing?

Hi! Just wanted to shout out and see if any locals have chicks, or hatching eggs for sale? I know there is a seperate forum to post it on but there is no way to narrow it down to local places, they really need that feature. Let me know, and happy chick season!

    Sexlink Q's

Not sure on all your questions but I do know, from reading, that when you beed sex links together you DO NOT get sexlink-able chicks! So beware! They won't be able to be sex by color like the parents were.

Rooster in the Hen House...Yay or Nay?

I Agree! Eggs that have been fertilized are no different that non-fertilized ones. We eat them everyday. I sell (but mostly give away!) eggs and no one ever knows any difference, they all LOVE the eggs. As far as a rooster pulling feathers out...in my experience it really depends on the rooster...

    snow

I agree..totally normal for them to not like the snow! Good idea on putting down boards and such for them to walk on!

    Chicken Coop Fire!!!

Don't use a heat lamp ever again!! I had the same thing happen- I was not home. Lost ALL birds, and if it wasn't for the snow on the ground I would have burnt down the woods and house! Your birds will be fine I'm sure, just recovering.
