    Water belly or crop issue?

She’s almost 1 yr old. I can’t say if she’s been laying recently I have so many hens. It does appear to be the crop. I felt under her beak and there is swelling and it feels rock hard. It’s not been that hot here the last week & I keep plenty of cool fresh water available. Doesn’t appear to be...

    Water belly or crop issue?

I found 1 of my hens sitting on the ground of the run this morning. She’s having trouble walking. I took a couple pics. Not sure if it’s a crop issue or water belly? I attached a couple photos if someone can point me in the right direction I’d appreciate it.

    Oyster shell deal

I purchased the 50# bags. I’ve been using them for over a year now and no issues. I have a large mixed flock so I feed all flock with a side of oyster shell everyday. I have the bags on auto ship to save even a little more.

I’ve got a Wyandotte hen that does the same thing. She even chases off the Roos that try to mount her 😂 and beats them up.

How dark are Meyer hatchery marans eggs?/What’s the best hatchery for marans?

Here’s a pic of my 3 golden cuckoo maran eggs. I got them from Meters last fall. They just started laying a couple weeks ago. I have some splash marans that I got from a local breeder and they’re not as dark.

    Anatolian Pyrenees puppy

I got some sheep & goats today. He’s absolutely infatuated with them. He immediately started to heard them. Talk about stubborn though once he found the sheep & goats he was focused on them and nothing else. I have them contained with electric wire to a couple acres. My pup found a hole in the...

    Artificial grass

I’m thinking about trying this for bedding in my coops and was wondering if anyone else has tried this and what the results were? My coops aren’t designed for deep bedding and I’ve been cleaning them once a week. I figure if it was artificial grass I could just pull them out, dump them, then...

    Keeping chickens cool

I also forgot to mention you can add fans to the coops to help keep it cool. Make sure it has plenty of ventilation.

    Keeping chickens cool

I live in CA and the summers here can reach 120f. I lost a few to heat when I was 1st getting started. Now I change out there water a few times a day and I also add blue ice to keep it cool longer. I also soak the mud in shady areas so they have a place to get their feet wet and cool off. I also...

    Oyster shell deal

I order the 50# bags from TSC online and have them delivered. I can get the bag for $18.99 and I get free shipping. I usually order 2 bags at a time, I go through a lot.

    Baby chicks this year 2025

The local TSC stores here have their brooders inside a locked dog kennel so only employees can get to them.

Frustrated about the availability of chicks

I’ve got an order coming this week from Meyers. Hopefully no shipping issues and they all get here on time and in good health. It normally takes 2 days to get an order from them. The confirmation email shows they shipped my entire order with no shortages or exchanges.

    Baby chicks this year 2025

I was talking to an employee at our local TSC and they said they’ve had lots of complaints this year. They got in 3 orders and each batch they said had a lot of customers coming back with dead chicks.
