my 5 week old hen was doing the same thing along with breathing with her mouth open. she fought it for one week and passed away. The lady at the local farm store said it was prob a blocked nostril and I should flush it. I don't think it was because I cant imagine a blocked nostril being fatal...
Thank you for the Replies! I have Not seen her Poo since she has been sick. I'll let you now when I do. If it is coccida or respiratory what's your suggestion?

I am Cheap! I made my brooder out of free shipping crates I got from an industrial park. I made my own coop for about 200 bucks. It probably would have cost 500-1000 to buy. Go Cheapsters!!
thanks for all the replys! chickens are out in their coop as of yesterday. most of them didn't venture up the chicken stairs from the run. is this normal? I checked on them at 3am. it was cold out and they where all huddled together. also I have my first sick bird... noticed about a week ago-...
New to this. picked up "raising chickens for dummies". Got 18 chickens (5 weeks old) road island reds and laying hens from tractor supply in Elkton Maryland. Currently in my basement brooder. Coop (Chicken tractor) almost done. May have questions soon!!
