Which of these breeds would you recommend?

I've loved my golden comets, they are so friendly, my 4 year old can handle them. Great layers too. I have gotten one a day from most of them every day since they started laying. Nice big brown eggs. The best layers in my flock by far. ( I don't have any of the other breeds you mentioned)

Sorting chicks using a new pen/coop.

Hmmm. Ok. Rooster likely = rooster regardless of the breed. Roosters =bad for small children, which I have already seen with my current rooster. So if I need to decide if I want to breed my cochins, I read that is hard to do, or have a safe place for my youngsters to interact with chickens. And...

Sorting chicks using a new pen/coop.

Yes, I will be building on the side of the existing coop, so they should all be able to see an interact. My reasons for keeping the rooster, for now, is really that he is cute, a light purple/blue color, and he was sick and I nursed him back to health at a week old. I know my other rooster isn't...

Sorting chicks using a new pen/coop.

I am fairly new to chickens but loving them! I got my first batch in September 5 layers (asian black, olive egger, cinnamon queen, new hampshire) and a rooster (olive egger). Now I am a bit obsessed and 12 chicks to add. (2 EE, 2 blue marans, 4 golden comets, 2 Barnies (1 pullet, 1 cockeral...

    Cochin Cockerel?

Sounds good. I have another cockerel that age with an even bigger comb so I was kinda hoping there was a chance. Oh well. I think the only solution is to build a new makeshift coop and run so I can keep another rooster. I think he is really cute.

    Cochin Cockerel?

Each week I change my mind about this chick's gender. Right now I think cockerel. Any experts out there have any ideas? He is about 6 weeks old.

    Chick stressed, not eating enough

Thanks for the advice...he definitely seems better this evening. I have been seeing normal chick behaviors all afternoon that I haven't seen in a while.

    Chick stressed, not eating enough

This is a cochin, poor thing thought he/she was top dog until I brought in the bigger chicks. Located in NC, US. I will get some nutridrench. I have been giving it a homemade sugar/electrolite blend I found a recipe for online prior to reading your comment, which seems to have helped some, I...

    New Chicken lover

Hi, I got my first chicks last September and they started laying in January! I have 3 olive eggers (one is a roo), a new hampshire, cinnamon queen, and asian black. I just got my second batch of chicks, a few cochins, barnies, easter eggers and blue marens. I would love to hatch some eggs from...

    Chick stressed, not eating enough

So, I have learned a lot and have many regrets with this batch of chicks...here goes. I have a cochin chick that is not eating enough. Chick has been cleaned of pasty butt 3x. I bought the chick 8 days ago from TSC along with another cochin chick and two barnie chicks straight run. Well I...
