How would you get Pinless Peepers on pretty much wild chickens? They were 10-11 mo old hens when I bought them, with no human touch. Still working on the taming them, or as one lady put it "loving them into submission". We can't get into the run. It's only 2 ft tall. I use rakes & hoes to clean...
I only have 3 & the coop & run are plenty big enough, but I have one hen that is a bully. One of them just stayed a safe distance & never crossed her. The blonde was just silly & kept getting in her way. The bully beat her up. Now the blonde one just cowers in the corner. The bully won't allow...
I definitely prefer spring & fall. Summer is too hot! When I have to change ice blocks & bowls of ice in the coop every 2-3 hours, it's tiring & too much. I do it, because I love my girls.
I am happy & shocked. My little black one has some patches & I thought there was something wrong, then my blond one started getting little spots. I didn't see any black feathers. I think she eats them.🤷♀️
I live in the town next door, and although it eliminated a lot of choices I was very insistant with my real estate agent " No HOAs". That's why I'm able to have chickens & pretty much landscape the way I want.
I have 3 Ameraucana Bantams: A blonde, a brunette, & a redhead. The redhead looks great. Still all her feathers; no molting. But she's not laying. The blonde is molting, not laying, also seems upset & missing Betty, the brunette. We pulled Betty, the black one, out in a separate pen to work on...
It's all about the journey, everyone's personal journey with God, Jesus, & the Holy Spirit! Make them first in your life, your focus, and all else will fall into place. Sometimes it might not seem like it, but that is life on this earth. This is a fallen place. Focus on Him, making the best of...
I wait until after complete harvest, then I "harvest" the straw & aspen shavings out of the coop & run for the next couple of months, with all their chicken poop in it, & till it into the soil of all the garden areas & beds. It can sit in the soil over the winter & the "fertilizer" be absorbed...
Agreed. Some deserve to go to dinner. Growing up on a poultry farm we had all kinds. We had a couple we kept until the end of their lives, which we were thankful were quite long. Both lived about 12 years each; sweet, beautiful, healthy roosters. I remember I named them King & Buttercup, because...
One thing I have found to be quite fulfilling & interesting is to take the root end of green onion plants that you cut off & stick them back in the vegetable bed. Up comes another green onion plant. I just love that! New from the throw-away!
Cut off one 6" zucchini, plus some radishes, turnip greens, kale, lettuce, Swiss Chard, Arugula & a couple leaves Bok Choy for a couple of mixed green salads, along with store-bought spinach. The spinach I planted didn't grow well. Too much heat; it wilted. This is to go with steaks & potatoes.
