We call our French Black Copper Marans Rooster “Sweetie Pie”, but I think it might be down to individual birds. His brother was so mean he ended up in a soup pot. Mean Roosters can cause you real injury and are never worth keeping.
There is so much good advice above and it really does come down to your setting and personal preference. Oft times you won’t know which breed suits you until you’ve had them for a while. We carefully chose breeds, often rare and beautiful, only to discover they didn’t work in our set up, or they...
Silkies have been our most consistent for broody and mothering chicks. We usually keep one just for this purpose. The photo is a four month old who was photographed just last night mothering adopted chicks (to our surprise).
.
We observed a notable difference once when we put two store bought chicks (on arrival day and assured under 3 days old and they looked it) with two chicks from our incubator all the same age (3 days old) under our broody hen. The chicks from our incubator listened to the mother and followed...
Hi friend. congratulations! We hatch all our chicks in 360’s. Just curious, what is your humidity at now? We have chicks pip and then sometimes take very long breaks, and then all of a sudden, they zip right out. If a chick pips and they have not yet absorbed the egg sack, they need to do that...
Check back in a week. Are you turning the eggs at least four times a day or with an egg turner? It may have a blood ring, which means it started to develop and then died. However, it doesn’t hurt to wait and check it in a week. If it looks exactly the same, it stopped developing.
Not to worry friend. I dry incubate usually with humidity as low as 18%, only bring it up for lockdown. We always have great hatches. Most importantly, you may see nothing happen for a couple more days. And once they PIP it can take them a nailbiting long time until they actually zip that shell...
We had no issues with any chicks at all. Even our ducks did well. However, there is a guy on Etsy who makes accessories for the 360 including a riser for the top. We thought we’d try this for fun, but been Hatching chicks for three years with absolutely no issue.
They have been great for us for the price. The lid on the 360 has a tiny groove front and back that helps you know it is on securely. We also calibrate our incubators with a good second Thermometer. Ours all ran about 1 degree cooler, so an easy adjustment. Once that was set, we have never had...
We also unplug the turner at end of day eighteen and remove the turner device without ill affect, candle the eggs to remove any that are obvious duds, lay eggs spaced around incubator and close her up for the hatch. We’ve become much more relaxed with the process since We lost power last winter...
Hi, my young grandson hatches eggs for our local backyard and farms. We have tried multiple incubator (Nurture Right 360, Farm Innovators, Brinsea, etc) over the past three years. Last hatching season we got rid of everything and have three NR 360’s. We always had the most reliable and stable...
You might try Bradley, if your other source is not available. https://www.etsy.com/shop/CourdtCreations?ref=profile_header
He was super helpful and responsive for us, even rushing a large egg turner for us because I have to be away during the day coming up. Super quality and super service.
