    Broody duck question

I have not candled the eggs. She is refusing to get up from the nest. Should I make her get off and candle them? I was afraid I would disrupt the process if I candled this late. I started the countdown from the day she started. I assume I should have started the countdown from the second day?

    Broody duck question

My broody Rouen duck has been sitting on her nest for 30 days today. I still see no signs of ducklings. She kicked one egg out 2 days ago. She has faithfully sat on her nest and barely leaves. Should I be concerned? Will it be obvious when they hatch?

    Gardening Thread 2021

That is certainly the truth! We are on a 40 acre ranch in Colorado, around 6500 above sea level. The intense sun, low humidity, not the best soil and wind definitely make for challenges! I am originally from Michigan where I could grow just about anything easily. That is not the case here, my...

    Gardening Thread 2021

I have a bunch of Heirloom seeds I will be attempting to grow in this challenging climate, mostly perennials. I have a small duck farm (78) and some chickens, so many are geared towards them, to save on feed. Luckily, we have 15 acres of pasture they will be on starting this spring. I recently...

    questions about selling eggs

I was told that the garage sale app is a good option for advertising eggs. I have not used it since when I put an ad on Craigslist for my duck eggs I had a lady that wanted all of the duck and chicken eggs I had. I ended up buying more ducks, we have 60 hens plus some drakes and currently...

    CHICKENS KEEP DYING

I have had this problem since this summer. It waned when it cooled down. It seems like certain breeds are more prone to it. I had half my PBR die in this manner. The rest of my flock ( EE, Wyandotte’s, Black Sexlink, RIR) has achieved some sort of immunity. In my experience when they are gasping...

    Chicken Buyers Remorse

I will never buy Marans again. We free range and they aren’t very good at avoiding predators, not much awareness and not camouflage, overall were very weak in my opinion. We had 3 hens and they all died. I liked our rooster, although he was rough with the hens. He ended up breaking his wing so...

    ComeJoin Duck club!!

I am new to ducks. Husband and I bought 18 ducks from a local gal that was moving. We are selling the eggs and have a huge demand for them so we are buying 10 more tomorrow. I was just wondering if anyone had any tips or tricks on cleaning the eggs? I have just been using a cloth with really hot...

    Colorado

Thanks for responding Dntcowgirl. I found some Bielefelder hens on the Western Slope that will be here in November. I would still be interested in both your Bielefelder and SSH eggs. Perhaps when that time comes we could exchange information and discuss details? Hope the smoke isn’t too bad on...

How to get chicks to not be afraid

I have raised quite a few breeds of chickens using the techniques outlined on this thread to make them friendly and they are great suggestions. I believe that the personality and the breed of the bird has a lot to do with how friendly they are with humans. All of our girls and Roos have had the...
