Thank you all for your input. She does look like a Black Tailed Buff Japanese Bantam.
I will most likely rehome her. I thought my girls were pretty chill but when I let her out with them my Black Australorp chased her relentlessly and pecked her, cornered her, jumped on her... the rest followed...
Hello everyone :)
I was recently asked to adopt a lone hen. I agreed, only to find out she's a tiny thing! Now I'm wondering what breed she is.
I will most likely have to rehome her (I have 5 standard hens and they are like 3 times her size).
Editing to add: I'm not sure how old she is but...
Thank you so much for taking the time to inform me about coyotes. I will definitely keep an eye out for their scat and do some more research about them. Thanks again!
Thank you all for your replies. We had a camera but it got too dark for it to catch anything so we left a nearby light on after the first attack. Yes there was a second attack from a different spot. The camera caught fast shadows slinking and darting around inside and outside of the run and I...
Last night my 7 hens jump into their coop one by one. This morning I counted 6 leave the coop and the last not found. There was a 40 minute time span between them going into the coop and me locking it up. Otherwise they were roaming around their run all day (covered from top to bottom, no...
Thank you, Eggcessive (clever name). Do you suggest I administer B complex vitamins on a regular basis? Currently I put crushed garlic in their water, sometimes ACV, probiotic powder and electrolyte powder. This is what their former owner did and the chickens have been very healthy with regular...
Thank you all for your kind welcome and helpful comments :) I'm glad to be here and I'm excited to learn from you all. This forum is such a great resource!
Thank you both for your advice. I'm monitoring her and she seems to be resting on her own. She doesn't leave the run and just sits where she can see the other chickens frolicking around the yard. With that in mind, is there any reason I should quarantine her, even in sight of the other chickens...
While moving our hens from their former home to ours, one of the them got her leg caught under the coop. Some of the feathers where her leg meets her body were pulled off by the coop. She scraped off some scales but that's all it looked like. However, hubby and I are new to chicken-keeping and...
Hi everyone :)
I just recently bought 8 chickens along with a coop and run, after waiting for more than 3 years. Much of that time was spent convincing my husband that they'd be good for us and wouldn't tear up the yard too much.
Anyway, he finally agreed and I quickly acquired my backyard...
