The Green River Poultry Club spring show will be held April 17, 2010 at the Edmonson County Fairgrounds in Brownsville KY. In addition to the show several people set up outside selling poultry, waterfowl, rabbits, plants, cages, incubators etc. Matt John sets up inside selling a wide variety of...
The longer you have poultry, the more important medicated feed is to chicks. I keep Cocci-Rid on hand in case the feedstore runs out of medicated or I simply want to raise chicks on my feed mill ration. Adults shouldn't need any medicated feed in the routine course of things. Here, only chicks...
After weeks of rain, I'm spending every free moment in the garden right now, but after my last hatch is out I'll post the dimensions and some tips I recall from building these.
DDAWN, check TSC or Farm & Fleet, whatever farm store you have. Our TSC carries 125's routinely. I generally only use the 250's in really cold weather. 125's cut the electic usage & that's always a good thing!
I'm here to share information. I wouldn't think of charging you for plans if they were available, unfortunately I didn't work from plans. My last setting will go to the hatcher on the 22nd. If you'll remind me on the 26th, right after Memorial Day I'll try and take more detailed photos and...
Well, it might not be fair, I had the cherry in my workshop, the expanded metal for the drawer bottoms in my scrap pile and the stainless angle for drawer runners in the barn. I had the thickness planer and tongue & groove bits. I used all new GQF electrical components and went with the preset...
My normal feed is a mash. I either grind it at home or have the mill custom grind/mix for me. I've used all three types. I had less waste with pellets than either crumbles or mash. However, the price on my mash is low enough that any waste is more than made up.
Poulet du Cajun, Mines marked GQF Hovabator 1590. It's a preset electronic t-stat fan forced bator that I discarded the styrofoam & installed in a solid cherry cabinet. I's amazing how much better the wood holds temp/humidity compared to the styrofoam.
Thanks to everyone for your kind...
Dirt Road, It's full of eggs right now (imagine that!) so I can't get photos. The door at the rear is horizontal. It's hinged just below the bottom of the top shelf holding the fan/heating element. To access, you just drop the door down, remove 4 screws holding the shelf, unplug the t-stat &...
Purina makes a perfectly good feed. My layers respond better to protein levels around 20% so on the rare occasion I use commercial feed it's always Purina Flockraiser. I offer oyster shell free choice so calcium isn't an issue. Were I using Layena, my only scratch grain would be BOSS. This would...
I'm not familiar with the protein levels of Jacob's Cattle Beans, so I can't formulate your protein levels for you. Off the top, you might consider adding a poultry vit/min concentrate available at any real feed mill. The one I use is Akey Layer 75 because that's available locally. The Fertrell...

I'd be very excited, but I wouldn't let it show!
