Update: She hatched out 8 chicks, all of them have survived to this point! They are a little over 4 weeks old now. The rooster had no problems with them at all.
I have a broody red golden hen who has eggs due to hatch in a few days. She lives with a rooster (who are the chicks father), and I was wondering if the chicks and rooster will get along, or will I need to separate them?
Not my chicken, but a friend's. She is having a hard time walking, she is a 2 year old brahma. That's all I know so far, will add more info if and when it comes in.
There isn't anything they could do in a situation like that. As she said, it's a risk when you get straight run as you could get anything. I bought 15 turkeys from them this year and ended up with 10 toms and 5 hens. It isn't there fault, it was just bad luck.
I have a broody he who hatched out 13 chicks almost 3 weeks ago. The other day I noticed something was wrong with one, but didn't think anything of it because I thought it would be okay. Today I found the chick dead and noticed that a couple others have the same problem. Does anyone know what it...
They should be fine together. Roosters fight more often at this age with each other than pullets do. If they start fighting to the point where there is blood, then it would be a good idea to separate them.
