    Ancona questions

Wow. Thank you. That was a very informative site. I'm just not sure I'm ready to breed crested. I'm just trying to get my feet wet into Ancona and this happens. It is very interesting I let the breeder know that one of the ducklings was crested and they said they've been breeding their flock now...

    Ancona questions

Thank you for the info. Can you tell me anymore about the crested gene? Like can I safely breed that drake to the other hens? I guess my big thing is this breed checked all the boxes that I was looking for in a duck. And if I can help by offering hatching eggs for sale and hatching babies and...

    Ancona questions

Hello I am new to the Ancona breed. I purchased two different sets of hatching eggs on eBay and my ducks are now 6 weeks old and I have began to sex them. I believe I have some blacks, browns, lilac/lavender, and a blue. I have no idea what I'm doing as far as mixing these colors. I ended up...

Oh! you're right. I always forget its the hens that are chipmunk. You'd think "eyeliner" and you'd think i could remember female. :) sorry about that

Most gorgeous chicken Ive ever seen! Roo or hen?

Hi all! So I hatched this chick out from fertile barnyard mix chicken eggs. I'm fairly certain it was from our Mystic Onyx rooster and one of our cream legbar x barnevelder cross hens. So, this chick progressed into more of a gorgeous bird. I am wondering if it looks like a hen or a rooster to...

Can I get an ID on an all black chick?

Oh my gosh! You are right. I didn't even notice!! what an Eagle eye you are!!! Two of the blacks have 5 toes and look the same. One of them is bigger and is obviously a different breed. how exciting. Mystic Onyx looks like a super cool breed too. Are they sexed at hatching? I see on the Hoovers...

Can I get an ID on an all black chick?

I got updated pics today. I see now that they are getting little bits of red scalloping on their feathers. Both on the scapulars and the flight feathers. First pic is a zoom in on the scapular feathers. Should be interesting now that they are starting to feather out.

Can I get an ID on an all black chick?

Hello all, So, I went to my local Runnings farm store last week and here in North Dakota we had a really bad blizzard. All of the stores in the state had diverted their chick orders to one location. This store had 1500 chicks to sell during a blizzard. It was crazy seeing all the troughs set up...

I am elated to share with this community that the city I live in passed a backyard chicken ordinance. I, and other members of the community have been requesting this from the city for quite sometime. I made myself available to speak before the city commission and got to watch them vote and pass...
