Home Owners Assoc Takign Away My Chickens

Quote: Totally understood :-) Just making suggestions as to what I would do, because the more you know, the more you have to fight with. You may still lose, but at least you gave it your all...it would be awful to be done with it, lose, and think "I should have tried this" or "why didn't I...

My heart is broken / Told to get rid of my girls / Resolved!

Feathers7, I am so sorry to hear that you no longer have your flock. As a poultry community though, we desperately need more freedom fighters. Even if you no longer have your flock - your story is much needed. As someone mentioned - write an editorial...talk to local news...

Home Owners Assoc Takign Away My Chickens

Personally, I would never live in a place subject to HOA's. I simply cannot allow someone else to make (more) decisions for me and my family. That being said, some don't realize what HOA's truly mean until they are locked in. Sadly, many cannot move away from these due to the expense of...

    Hello from Spokane, WA!

Hi there! I live north of Spokane in Chattaroy. I know this is an older post but maybe it's still relevant? What did you find out? Where did you find that Spokane County prohibits chickens or poultry? I have found that it depends on your zoning and lot size...

duck almost drowned / pneumonia?? antibiotic preventative?

I'm really disappointed that I didn't get any responses to my concerns here :-( Thankfully I was able to find out dosage of antibiotic from my mom (which still was a guess based upon chicken dosage) or my duck may have either died or been overdosed on antibiotic... :-( Mr. Duck is back with...

    Need emergency help--chicken can't breathe

Quote: Could she have inhaled water or other liquid? I just rescued one of our Khaki Campbell baby ducks on Friday night and we did mouth to beak rescussitation, brought him inside with a heat lamp, and he is doing quite well. Without more details it's hard to make too much of a suggestion...

duck almost drowned / pneumonia?? antibiotic preventative?

hahaha thanks :-) An update: lil Mr. Duck was feeling so much better that he managed to jump out of the plastic tub we had him in (jumped up where the water dish was, and then jumped out from there)...since our ducks haven't been big jumpers, I figure that meant he was ready to go back by the...

HELP Chick with Impacted/Sour Crop and broken wing!

My opinion again, and I'm still somewhat of a newbie (first year but with childhood experience too)...but i would think she'd want to at least see the others, even if she couldn't be with them - I think about myself, I feel better if I know my husband is home, or if he will be home soon, if I'm...

2 week old chick attacked by cat

I would say, if you can, CATCH the neighbor's cat (maybe try a long-handled fishing net?) and then call the neighbor and ask if they know where their cat is. When they snottily say that it is at home, "of course", then ask them if they are willing to bet money on it. Tell them that you will...

HELP Chick with Impacted/Sour Crop and broken wing!

Her crop sounds normal - you don't want it to be too solid/hard. If she's only 3 days old, and you're feeding her baby chick feed, she should be fine as far as the crop goes. As far as I know (I started chickens this year, but grew up with them until I was 18, I'm 27 now)... I would say if...

    Chicken foaming of the mouth

Yes, rhubarb greens are toxic to most, if not all, animals. As are greens from potatoes or tomatoes (nightshade family).

    What to put on backs

I don't know the name of it, but we buy a stuff that is specifically for birds to stop pecking. It contains coal tar, cloves I think...maybe tea tree oil? I know it's a mixture of things that I found to be relatively safe, meaning I didn't mind my future meat or egg birds to have it on their...

    salmonella risks?

I am 27 and have eaten over-easy with runny yolked eggs all my life - can't stand solid yolks unless they are in egg salad or otherwise chopped up. And now that I'm raising my own chickens (and ducks, and turkeys, and pheasants...) I'm not about to eat a disgusting hard-yolked egg. That being...

duck almost drowned / pneumonia?? antibiotic preventative?

Well, I ended up giving my duck a mix of tetracycline and water - 1/2 tsp to a gallon equivalent, in his water dish so he can free drink. I ended up calling my mom who used to work in a hatchery. He's drinking water, eating just fine too, and his voice is actually starting to come back...

how much do you charge for your eggs?

On the fertilzed or unfertilized eating question - I don't mind fertilized but my mother-in-law tends to pick off the fertilization using a loop hemostat. She's fine if they are fertilized but prefers to take that off.
