Nova Scotia, Canada. Any other East Coasters??

Hi SeanaL, yes, I was thinking of covering the foam boards with some thin plywood. Thanks for your idea.

Nova Scotia, Canada. Any other East Coasters??

Hey Firekin, I agree with you. I think a source of heat would do more harm than good. What do you do to winterized your coop? My coop is 6 x 8 and is 2 feet off the ground. I was thinking of using blue foam board inside between the studs and put some bails of hay around the bottom perimeter...

Nova Scotia, Canada. Any other East Coasters??

Hello. I'm in Irishtown, NB. I just got my 8 chicks 15 days ago. This is our first time raising chicks. We had meat kings last summer and figured we'd enjoy egg layers better. So far so good and they are growing fast! We gave them some grapes a couple of days ago as a treat and they loved...

    Big pile of poop

Yes, I checked on the chick when I got home from work and it seems fine. It was running around, eating from my hand, drinking and no poop on its behind. I can sleep easily tonight. :)

Thanks for your reply Ridgerunner. I'm can rest easier knowing that the chick will be ok.:) People are so friendly and helpful on this forum. I've learned so much and I can't wait to be able to return the knowledge to other newbies. Thanks again. Mike

    Big pile of poop

Hello all, I have 8 new chicks. 4 white and 4 brown. Don't ask me what kind they are, the country store told me they are a hybrid breed for laying eggs ( I frowned at them for that answer). This is our first attempt at raising chicks so bare with me for not knowing some of the technical...

    Hello from New Brunswick, Canada

Thanks TwoCrows for the tips. My wife just corrected my math. We ordered 8 chicks, not 10. I was thinking of making a brooder 2x4 feet. I think this will be good then going by your tip of 1/2 sq ft per chick. I guess it depends on how quick they grow too. That's ok, I like to build things...

    Hello from New Brunswick, Canada

Hello all. No, I've been very busy the last few months with work, surgery, etc. I'm back and my wife and I ordered 10 egg laying chicks today. They will be here around April. They will be one day old chicks. This past summer we built our coop and my father had meat kings to try it out...

    Canadians check in here....

Thanks PEI chicken. I've read different views on whether to heat or not. I'm going to try and block the north wind as best I can and have a heat lamp on hand just in case. Our winters seem to be getting different year after year. It's unpredictable. Thanks for the feedback.

    Hello from New Brunswick, Canada

Hello Marblegas. Nice to hear you have a couple laying. I'm sure the other one will soon. I get different views on whether to insulate or not to. I figure I'm going to make sure it's nice and dry, block the northern wind and will keep a lamp in it for the winter. I built my coop inside a...

    Canadians check in here....

Hello from Irishtown, New Brunswick. I'm new to all of this. I've wanted chickens for a long, long, long time. Now I'm almost done my coop and will be getting chickens soon. I plan on having 4 or 5 chickens for eggs. Anyone else close to me? I'd love to hear about keeping chickens in our...
