If you want to use the deep littler method than straw is NOT the way to go.
1)It mats too easily and once it's combined with the manure it creates a tightly packed heap. This will make coop cleaning miserable.
2)Straw also will not absorb any moisture from the droppings and can cause ammonia...

I don't know what this one is doing. It sure is peeping a lot. I know they do that but I have never had one as loud and distressed sounding as this one is. This one has me concerned. I don't like to interfere with the hatch but this little one may need some assistance.
Well my eggs are hatching so I figured I would grab the camera and get some pics.
Here is the first one.
If you look real close at the big tear you can see the tip if the chicks beak. This is an EE chick.
I'm in PA. I know there was a woman on here who bred SQ silkies in PA but for the life of me I can't remember her name. Any one remember?
I also would be interested in some eggs if I can't get chicks.
