I understand the attraction to kids and cuddle but they are outside birds that have the potential to carry a variety of diseases. I am an RN, and I would not encourage missing or getting your face too close to them add a rule. Just my advise, take it or leave it.
I placed a plastic egg as you offered so I will see if that makes a difference. If it doesn't work I think I will try moving her own egg into the nesting box. Thanks!
I don't have an answer for you. I am just introducing 3 young chickens to my 4 year old hen and she has taken to laying out in the dirt rather than the coop. The young ones seem to stay in the coop near the nesting box is. I hope the hen starts laying again in the nesting boxes.
