To be honest. A 50lb bag of 18% layer pellet around here is $20. One bag lasted my 4 hens 1.5 months. Then the scratch is about $10 for a 50lb bag, the scratch lasts 2x or 3x as long because it is a treat. The "others" are where the cost is. Mealworm treats, hotcakes, watermelon, treats, pine...
I got a young Easter Egger rooster (about 4 months old id guess, about to find his voice) and he isn't much larger than the game fowl at the moment. The EE rooster was already mating with the hens this afternoon. He isn't a super aggressive rooster and seems to fit with those hens pretty well...
Awesome! Thank you for the info. I'm going to try to introduce him to them since they are a little more temperamental than my other flock lol. Maybe he can lay the law down a little bit.
Can you put a regular rooster in with American game fowl hens, or do you need a game fowl rooster to go with those birds? I don't want roosters that are going to go after each other, but I am soon to have 3 flocks in close proximity. Can't find much online about this, hoping one of yall can help
I responded to an ad a lady put out for a free rooster. She says he is about 6 months old, and not crowing yet. She has another full grown rooster and the 2 don't get along, so she said I can pick him up. Can anyone tell me what breed they think this little guy is?
